"you need to rest before you can fight again" this game has a lot of anti-player changes in design that make it a massive slog compared to the first game, just too many inconveniences that compound to waste my time

a fun sequel to heist, and a decent enough successor. Needlessly made fun parts frustrating for the sake of being different. the worst to know going in: characters and weapons becoming unusable after a single mission makes the game wildly miserable. Enjoy being hard locked out of the options you actually enjoy until you've slogged through the rest. overworld travel is frustrating. It's fun and novel at first, but the lack of fast travel between even major locations makes it, again, miserable. I suppose naval combat is supposed to be 'part of the challenge', but spending 5 minutes holding s just so you can be ambushed into a 30 second combat is not worth it. The levelling system, while cool and modular, is not tutorialized until three hours in. At which point you are forced into 'experimenting' even though you've already figured it out by then. Ultimately, is saved by the fact that it is steamworld heist. The game is very much fun, but I'd sooner suggest the first one.
SteamWorld Heist II is a thrilling sequel that builds upon the charm, strategic depth, and inventive gameplay of its predecessor while expanding the universe with new features, characters, and a richer narrative. This turn-based tactical shooter combines the precision of aiming with the tactical decision-making of a squad-based game, all wrapped in a delightful steampunk-inspired aesthetic. With its polished mechanics, engaging story, and humorous tone, SteamWorld Heist II successfully captures the spirit of the original while offering fresh content that keeps both returning players and newcomers hooked. One of the defining characteristics of SteamWorld Heist II is its unique approach to combat. Unlike typical turn-based strategy games where attacks are automated or determined by stats alone, this game requires players to manually aim their shots, adding a layer of skill and timing that heightens the intensity of every encounter. Each character in the player’s crew has distinct weap...
It is what I hoped it to be. The upgrade to Steamworld Heist in pretty much every way. More characters, a leveling system, more weapons to explore, more enemies to beat, more levels to play and I think the soundtrack is better too. Besides the round-based battling through levels there is some world map to navigate and some challenges tied to that. Though I folund the controls a bit meh it was still entertaining. On hardest difficulty it proved to be an acceptable challenge, didn't get stuck too long on any level but didn't feel so easy like I could turn my brain off. Big Challenges can be easened and overcome if it should be too hard by leveling and buffing your caracters up. Or just change the difficulty, if I remember correctly you can simply change it on the fly.
Very tough game to rate yes or no for me. I really liked the first one when it came out almost ten years ago and hoped for a similar experience. In a way I did get that, but maybe I’ve just become more critical over time, because the things that used to slide by now annoyed me enough that I didn’t enjoy this nearly as much as the original. It took about fifteen hours before it finally started to feel fun and interesting, and even then that didn’t last long. Looking back, I can honestly say I only enjoyed maybe thirty percent of the whole game, and that’s not enough for me to recommend it. The biggest problem is the story. I couldn’t care less about the premise, the setting, or the characters. Even calling them characters feels exaggerated. I don’t want to sound rude to the writers, but it genuinely feels like they asked an AI to generate a sequel to the first game and slapped a sea-planet theme on it. There’s never any real build-up, no compelling conflicts, nothing...
Honestly amazing game. If you liked the first, you'll love this one. It improves on a lot of things and the combat feels even better. If you never played the first one, but you like a mix of strategy/skill-based combat, this is the game for you.
I loved SteamWorld Heist II! 🎩🤖 Art direction is gorgeous, with music that perfectly fits the atmosphere. Difficulty progresses smoothly (though the last section is a real step-up). Characters are charming, and the story is simple but effective. Playtime feels just right, enjoyabl...
Most Addictive episode of the SteamWorld series
This is an incredible series of games, I have been playing through them, and the careful addition of mechanics throughout the franchise is really amazing. I can't wait for Epic of Gilgamech, I think I have like 20 hrs left of this game first.
Seems good. I hit a wall after a few hours and there's just not enough here to keep me interested. You might like it!
