About This Game

Crypt Custodian is a charming metroidvania/zelda-like about cleaning up the afterlife.

You play as Pluto - a mischievous cat who has just died, and landed in the afterlife's palace. After a brief and disastrous meeting with the Afterlife Guardian - Kendra - you are banished from the palace and sentenced to clean... FOREVER!!

Explore the vast grounds that surround the palace, battle beasts with your trusty broom, and gain new abilities to expand your map. Solve puzzles, discover secrets, and… organize an ambush to break back into the palace!

A Charming Cast Of Characters

Meet and befriend all the other bad ghosts who live outside the palace. Learn how they died, and what caused them to face eternal banishment! And then head on over to the local haunt- The Sinner’s Inn- to chat with the ghosts you meet, and upgrade your gear.

Tons of Upgrades

Complete puzzles, battle epic bosses, and clean your way through ruined dungeons in order to collect new upgrades and abilities. Customize your play style by mix-and-matching your upgrades, and use the abilities you collect to expand your world.

A Lively Interconnected World

Traverse a vast landscape with secrets hiding at every corner. Form your own path and discover the afterlife’s many secrets at your own pace.

I've only unlocked about 15% if this game and I'm already loving it so much! Gameplay feels like a mix of Hollow Knight and Hyper Light Drifter, which is very much my jam. The quirky humor is always spot on, and anyway you can never go wrong with felines :3

This is a Spoiler-Free review
Overview
Crypt Custodian thrives on simplicity and painless trial-and-error, a quality that might sound like criticism, but works brilliantly for this game when you consider its overall tone and goal. Crypt Custodian does not demand a lot of complex execution or strict challenge completion, nor does it demand much time investment to explore the game world; you can fast-travel to previously visited checkpoints right away (you can do so straight from the map menu). The game immediately signals its playful nature with a "streamlined" approach to failure, where death imposes only minor setbacks. The game's art direction takes on a very simplistic and soft style, yet still finds space for interesting character design and concepts. As for the combat system, it elects for a straightforward and a basic "Hollow Knight-style charm system", in conjunction with unlockable "spells" that you can spend resources on casting. These load-out options...
Crypt Custodian – Cute cat game let down by bullet hell

Overview
On paper, I should love Crypt Custodian. It advertises itself as a cozy metroidvania and you play as a cute cat. What isn’t there to love? Well, the actual game part. I liked it up until I played it. Then I continued playing it because I liked the story and characters enough to want to torture myself into playing a game I wasn’t enjoying. I almost wish everything about it sucked so I could just put it down forever, but no there’s a good game underneath but not for me or someone with similar tastes who isn’t a fan of bullet hell. What’s supposed to be cozy about that? And so it’s not one I can recommend.
Story
I liked it although it also made me sad. You play as a cat in the afterlife and everyone else in this world are also animals that have passed on. Your role in this afterlife is to clean garbage forever to pay for your sins. So you go out in the world ...

Brilliant game. No notes. Only if you're dead and joyless inside should you not buy and play this game.

I gotta say... This game has the best motivator for you to beat the game. That is: the one who is also the Last Boss in the story. Seriously. I've lived and experienced people like that. The immense hatred and loathing they carry within them is really something. Therefore... I was highly motivated to give her what the "Boss" truly deserved. No matter how challenging something got or if some other Boss massacred you... I just got up and kept going. Again and again. I was going to get to that wench, one way or another. Eventually it happened. That damn thing stopped everyone from
seeing their loved ones one last time! AND she stole my artwork! I should've drawn something worse. XD.
I cannot fathom how "wonderful" a person has to be like that for doing something like this. Spirit. Whichever. I didn't care if I didn't know how to dodge fence posts. I persevered and everyone got the "last glimpse". Now the game gives you the final Power and then tell...

Amazing metroidvania with a nice story and cute characters. Design of the game is very pretty with varying areas and unlocking options. As always it is sometimes needed to come back to places when certain abilities are unlocked. I liked that there was an in-game option to purchase a marker with info of where to go next, when I felt a bit lost. It's purely optional however, so everyone can decide. Fighting is mostly easy, however there are some points where I needed to try and try again, especially in later boss fights. But without getting frustrating, so for me it was very entertaining.

Great metroidvania with a ton of personality! I loved the unique artstyle, the areas and bosses felt super fresh ( neon crest and devils point are my faves!!), and the music was so relaxing, I listen to it while working. Also really enjoyed the blend of cuteness and bizarre horror that felt like something from newgrounds or like a courage the cowardly dog episode. Overall great game and I highly recommend it! I have to check out the creators other games! <3
