Charming football game disguised as a retro RPG. Sensible Soccery, with some light questing to boost stats. If you ever wished you could live a bit of the life outside of the beautiful game, without any stress, this is the one. You can still string moves together and hit thunderbolts from outside the box, then you get to do some optional fetch quests or skill tests to boost your character stats. Money can be used to upgrade your stadium, and everything can be renamed as you like, so if you want your North Stand to be called the LOL Catz Enclosure, you can make it so.
Simple, fun and made with a lot of heart with devs who clearly love not just football but the charm of lower league football. At this price point, I have absolutely no complaints and highly recommend it to football fans. I do hope for a deeper sequel in the future however. The game reminds me right now of foosball in a sense that the game is mainly ground bound. While crossing and a button to add height to shots and passes exists, improving the vertical element of the game would add so much - heading, volleys etc. Ditto if we can have more one touch passing and volleys. A stamina system would also help, as then you would have more reason to use your substitutes and rotate your squad. I'm getting ahead of myself however - for a first time foray into a football game, this is excellent stuff. It's come into my laptop with low expectations, but its going home with all three points.
