Nothing says ‘fun’ like being brutally murdered by a bat you didn’t even see, or losing 30 minutes of careful progress because you accidentally pressed the wrong button near a shopkeeper who suddenly turns into John Wick on caffeine. The controls are tight, the gameplay is flawless, and the game’s only real flaw is that it hates you personally. Every death feels fair: fairly humiliating, fairly avoidable, and fairly inevitable.
Overrated A rage game disguised as roguelike. HP doesn't matter at all. As you progress more and more one-shot and stunlock encounters coming at you. For 3rd shortcut Tunnel Man requested a key from Mines. Whip feels meh. Some traps barely visible or out of line of sight. Constant fall damage due to level generation and periodical softlocks. Frequent deadly trap generation next to the exit gate
Masochism in every sense of the word.
its pretty good, very hard at the start but when "i understand it now" its actually very easy and consistent to get to hell and beat yama, its better than spelunky 2 because when you die it doesnt feel like bullshit but actually fair unlike 50% of the deaths in spelunky 2, also the first world (the mines) isnt nearky as long and boring like the first area in spelunky 2 (dwelling).
Spelunky is a Roguelike Masterpiece
I've played my fair amount of roguelikes, some I liked more than others, but this one is such a precious and well design one to me. It's one of those roguelikes where getting lucky is not an important factor. Spelunky rewards you for doing good choices, being careful and thinking fast, it also punishes you real hard for committing the same mistakes. Some things I loved about the game:

Movement and object throwing physics feel super good and rewarding to master
Replayability value
It has no artificial difficulty
The soundtrack
Specially the Yeti Caves track <3

The cute cartoony artstyle
No unfair mechanics.
The only thing you will need to reach the end is pure skill and common sense. You will die a lot yes, but each death should be seen as an oportunity to learn from your mistakes. Plan ahead, manage your resources, if you feel you are about to die in a section, bomb the living...
Classic rougelike/platformer, very very challenging - I suck at this game, 70 hours and I cant beat this game lol
imagine spelunky 2 but bad
Extremely punishing at first, but very rewarding once mastered. A true classic. You should also try Spelunky 2 if you enjoyed this.
