One of the best metroidvanias I've ever played. This is one of the most experimental and unique games I've ever played, and in being experimental it is bound to make some people bounce off of it. Some rooms are somewhat bland, which I'd say is purposeful as it allows you to mold them yourself with your own plants and gardens. The enemy variety is somewhat little, and the game overall doesn't have much of an emphasis on action. The cycle system sounded somewhat scary at first but the amount of "progress" you lose is incredibly minimal and will NOT be affecting you much. But none of these "issues" detracted from any of the enjoyment I had. In return for trying something a bit more bold, Ultros has cemented itself to me as an incredibly fun and satisfying experience; I spent 40 hours in just one playthrough (FAR more than you'd realistically need to do everything) planting as many gardens as possible and interconnecting every little corner of the world. Not for the sake of getting achieve...

About This Game
ULTROS: DELUXE EDITION

Enhance your somatic sensory input with the Ultros: Deluxe Edition – including the Ultros Digital Artbook, showcasing the psychedelic world through never-before-seen imagery from the visionary El Huervo, and the Ultros Original Soundtrack, blending Peruvian instruments with classic orchestral themes, lovingly orchestrated by Oscar “Ratvader” Rydelius.
About the Game
You wake up stranded, after seemingly crashing your ship on The Sarcophagus — a giant, space-drifting, cosmic uterus holding an ancient demonic being known as ULTROS. Trapped in the eternal loop of a black hole, you will have to explore The Sarcophagus and meet its inhabitants to understand the part you play. Are you the gruesome breaker of this cycle, or can you become a link from destruction to rebirth?

ULTROS is set in a multifaceted realm - a vast alien landscape teeming with life. Grounded in science fiction, ULTROS comes wrapped in an eccentric art style and a mystical soundtrack from the visionary El Huervo, renowned for his work on Hotline Miami. ULTROS explores meta-themes of mental health, life, death, and karmic cycles through deep lore and environmental storytelling.

Experience brutal, intimate, close-quarter combat with cosmic lifeforms, driven by a sense of urgency – where precision is paramount and every cut of your blade counts. Yet this intense combat is juxtaposed with cultivating the greenery and tending to plant life in The Sarcophagus, providing precious moments of contemplation and peace. In turn, this grants deeper access to obscured paths.

The rich world of ULTROS holds many secrets for those curious enough — and fearless enough — to seek them out. A unique loop-based mechanic will allow you to start over at key moments in the story, providing opportunities to unfold such secrets, unlock different areas of the world and new abilities on a branching skill tree. Experiment with and master your own specific fighting style as you explore the world of ULTROS. Each loop brings you closer to the truth...

the keybinds are shit and require a controler which when bought you are greeted to wonky dogshit which rebinding is a pain in the ass and playing on pc like four things are set to two buttons and attack is e your mouse sits there and looks pretty
Overall a fantastic metroidvania. The #1 selling point of this game is how beautiful and unique the art style is. For fans of phsychadelic/trance style art this fits the bill, with a fantastic soundtrack to top it off. Combat is great but not incredible. There are some really cool mechanics regarding combos and how you defeat enemies. I didn't find the game difficult from a combat perspective but there are some awesome MV mechanics that are used to their full capabilities. If you are looking for a unique, emotional, puzzle based metroidvania than this is the game for you.
PEAK Mars-core game. Metroidvania with absolutely beautiful style, and gardening elements? How could you NOT love it?
Absolutely loved this game top to bottom. The art style, the puzzle solving, the way the cycles work. It's like it was tailor made to my tastes. May not be everyone's thing and that's all good but man it hooked me
This is such a refreshing approach to a metroidvania style game. It treats the world like an open sandbox puzzle that slowly unfolds to reveal itself to you. It has a few rough edges in gameplay, but the novel ideas, vibrant art, and unique mechanisms that are discovered in the ecosystem of this game make it completely worth trying if you like to explore and find hidden layers of a game.
I hate to give this a negative review but after 40+ hours the game started repetitively crashing when expanding the network, locking me out of the good ending unless I want to start over on a new save and hope it doesn't happen again (loading previous cycles didn't help). Up until then it was good, great in some aspects, however being unable to complete a game due to technical issues always warrants a thumbs down.
Ultros is an unapologetically bold and visually arresting entry into the Metroidvania genre that pushes the boundaries of conventional game design. From the very first moment, it immerses players in a hallucinatory world where neon colors pulse and undulate like a living painting, drawing clear inspiration from psychedelic art and bio-organic surrealism. This is not a game that merely flirts with style—it commits to its aesthetic entirely, creating an alien world that feels both hostile and sacred, decaying and blooming in equal measure. Every environment, every enemy, and every animation is drenched in hyper-saturated color, giving the entire experience a dreamlike, almost mythic quality. Whether you're exploring fleshy corridors that feel more organism than architecture, or watching strange plants grow from seeds you've planted, Ultros always feels alive in a way that few games even attempt to emulate. Beneath its kaleidoscopic surface, Ultros reveals a gameplay structure that is ...
Ultros immediately stands out with its unique art style – every biome and creature feels otherworldly and full of color. The vibrant visuals are without a doubt the strongest part of the game. The gameplay isn’t overly simple, but it strikes a nice balance so that any average Metroidvania fan can enjoy it comfortably. Overall, a very fun and engaging experience. :rimebutterfly: :emberbutterfly: :emberbutterfly:
