About This Game
Synopsis:
In the remote mountains of Colorado, horrors wait inside Mount Massive Asylum. A long-abandoned home for the mentally ill, recently re-opened by the “research and charity” branch of the transnational Murkoff Corporation, the asylum has been operating in strict secrecy… until now.
Acting on a tip from an anonymous source, independent journalist Miles Upshur breaks into the facility, and what he discovers walks a terrifying line between science and religion, nature and something else entirely. Once inside, his only hope of escape lies with the terrible truth at the heart of Mount Massive.
Outlast is a true survival horror experience which aims to show that the most terrifying monsters of all come from the human mind.
Features:
- True Survival Horror Experience: You are no fighter - if you want to survive the horrors of the asylum, your only chance is to run... or hide
- Immersive Graphics: AAA-quality graphics give players a detailed, terrifying world to explore
- Hide and Sneak: Stealth-based gameplay, with parkour-inspired platforming elements
- Unpredictable Enemies: Players cannot know when - and from where - one of the asylum’s terrifying inhabitants will finally catch up to them
- Real Horror: Outlast’s setting and characters are inspired by real asylums and cases of criminal insanity
Warning:
Outlast contains intense violence, gore, graphic sexual content, and strong language. Please enjoy.

Best horror game ever made perhaps the best game ever made if not one of
This is a certified spooky game. I was genuinely scared and uncomfortable for my first playthrough. In fact, I had to take a break from the game for a few days in order to process and handle the horror. This is a fantastic horror experience and I would highly recommend it. However, I have one major gripe with the game, unskipable cutscenes. Now, these cutscenes are not an issue for 90% of playthroughs. However, If you are attempting the lunatic achievement (beating the game on the permadeath difficulty), these unskipable cutscenes get old, fast. The first chapter alone has upwards of 10 minutes of watching cutscenes. This is normally not an issue but when you have to rewatch them every single run, you get sick of it. The worst one however, appears later in the game. In the
Male ward where trager ties you to the wheelchair, you have to watch the 5 minute cutscene until you can move again
. All these cutscenes make you understand why the difficulty is called "insane". ...
might be the scariest game ive played yet, what an experience
Disappointed.

First Half Of Outlast
I downloaded this game because of the hype. Outlast is considered a classic horror title, I read the good reviews, watched the nice stories on youtube about it, and at first, I saw why. The opening is genuinely scary, the atmosphere is strong, and it feels like the game is guiding you clearly through the asylum. I had fun at the start for an old game such as this, it had some great graphics as well.
Second Half of Outlast
Then comes the mad scientist chase. I ran around in circles for hours before giving up and looking up a walkthrough. Annoying, but forgivable. Unfortunately, everything after that falls apart. The game stops being scary and becomes pure frustration: constant dying, terrible AI that can sometimes even see you in the dark?! (Buddy i can’t see you, how the hell do you see me?!), unclear paths, and mechanics that punish you for no reason. Instead of fear, all I felt was throwing my mouse at the ...
When I was around 9-10, I watched a lot of horror YouTube videos and of all the games I would watch lets players play, Outlast was the one that horrified me the most. I was so scared of outlast, I couldn't even stomach watching it for more than a few minutes in short snippets. I bought the game last year on sale, and it scared me so badly that I moved on to other games until very recently. While my ability to withstand horror grew significantly over that year and this game scared me much less, it will still a disgustingly horrifying experience. I have never seen "mentally insane" horror done better than outlast and never have had a setting disturb and make me feel less comfortable than Mount Massive Asylum. Part of what makes this game so unique beyond its setting is the night vision mechanic, not only does this stand out in a sea of flashlights, it also gives every dark section a disgusting green hue. The way everything blends into one color, how eyes glow in the dark and how limited ...
The second I went in through the window and saw how dark it was (with the camera's night vision making it even more creepy), I noped out of the game for 3 months, before I built up the courage to launch it again. 10/10
LOVE this game. It's one of the few horror games that are scary as hell, the gameplay is goated, the atmosphere is very immersive, and the fucking lore is AWESOME. If you haven't played already, play blindly, also read your camera notes and documents you find. Knowing the story will turn this experience from just a heart attack experience to a movie. Also, the Whistleblower DLC is just as great, so consider getting it if you liked the base game.
