This isn't really a trucking game that offers long drives/flights. You take short flights either through debris fields or short highways, typically less than 5 minutes, then jump through warp gates to the next system. Repeat until you get to your destination. You cannot switch out parts such as engines or thrusters for better ones. You can only upgrade existing equipment. This aspect is very limited. You can add parts such as fenders, hood ornaments or paint your truck, but only for looks. Unfortunately it gets repetitive real quick. I'm about 9 hours in and getting tired of the same loop, Drive to A pick up cargo, drive to B drop off cargo, drive to shop upgrade preinstalled parts, repeat. The space walks for loot gets boring quickly as well since you can only carry 1 item at a time. If there are 5 items out in space, you need to jet from your truck to the item and back that many times, with a few animations in between. The story missions don't pay enough to keep you afloat. You need ...

About the Game
Hop into the driver's seat of your rocket-powered big rig as you haul cargo, scavenge for salvage and interact with an eclectic cast of star-hopping truckers in this Americana-infused journey on the ultimate open road - space!

Hi, this is Monster and Monster. Star Trucker is our tiny indie team's passion project, and we’re committed to making it the best intergalactic trucking game we can. By listening to the community, we’re working hard to improve the experience with every update. So buckle up and join us for the long haul!

Your truck is not a starship. We’ve taken typical vehicular controls then made sure zero-g momentum played a big part in maneuvers. The result is a unique driving experience that’s easy to pick up yet hard to master!
Cruise the hyper highways, taking on a variety of jobs such as fuel hungry long hauls and hazardous drop-offs to earn cash and unlock new content.
And don't forget to monitor the CB radio for chatter from fellow truckers; it's a fantastic way to uncover side gigs and stay updated on galactic gossip.

Keeping your rig runnin’ isn’t always easy. You’ll need to keep your core systems online, gravity compensator spinnin’ and hull patched to prevent your cab from leaking lung juice.
Be sure to make pre-trip shop stops for replacement parts, and consider upgrading your truck at a local garage. These improvements are vital for safely navigating volatile sectors and ensuring timely deliveries.

Use the galactic map to plan your journey and warp jumps, while keeping an eye on your fuel reserves and power levels.
Once your route is set, kick back, crank up the cab hi-fi and cruise to a selection of original songs covering starburst blues, galactic rock and asteroid infused americana. The open road is waiting!

So overall I think the game is fine but my issue with the game and one ive seen mentioned by plenty of others is that you have a space trucking game but for whatever reason you cant move your space truck Vertically or laterally which is very frustrating at times I love space games and im a big fan of Elite Dangerous so going from that to this just irks me, I get that they are trying to lean into the truck part of the game and not ship but at the end of the day its a space game and a space game that doesn't let me move in all directions is frustrating
I really wanted to like this one but the lack of customisable control schemes and clunky movement put this off for me. XYZ thrusters would make this better in my opinion but in its current state I cannot recommend Star Trucker.
Control support is terrible. The only options are xinput gamepad or keyboard/mouse and those options are exclusive - moving mouse breaks gamepad input. No other devices work, and if you use x360, forget about using mouse to look around.
Great game if you like near death in space experiences on every trip. However, I am 66 y/o and have read a lot of the scifi master writers. Studied scientists who also wrote scifi. This game totally disregards the reality of space travel. Nobody but pirates, fugitives, miners, outlaws, and crazy old hermits would ever try to develop most of the sectors in this game. Far too much debris and other hazards in every system. No sane astronaut would ever risk his/her life in a space suit with less than 60s of air supply. Truck life support and power systems are woefully inadequate. Truck customization is limited to exterior only. Truck directional thrusters should be placed around the center of gravity of the truck, not at the rear. Interior cargo security is one of my biggest complaints and it is so easy to fix but the devs have thus far declined to do so. OK. End of rant. I'm just an old school hard core scifi fan with outdated standards. Play the demo and decide for yourself.
this would be nice in vr
Since Steam does not allow Neutral reviews I am giving this a Thumbs Up, as this game is such a unique concept and the soundtrack is amazing! However, my review is really Neutral. The game still feels Early Access. As others said, the resource management can be really overwhelming. They did add options to tweak how often you need to manage your truck/supplies but I felt it was then either too easy or too hard. I enjoyed the truck controls because they somehow managed to capture the feel of a slow heavy duty truck in the floatyness of space. That being said, I was never able to perfectly hitch or dock. YMMV with controls. The real issue I have with this game is that, despite it advertised as a "trucking in space" simulator, it's really more of a "space truck dockyard" simulator. All of the gameplay takes place in ports which are essentially just large docks where you prepare your truck for a haul, accept jobs, hitch/dock hauls, and repeat. There is really no driving (or I should say ...
Yet another game with a great concept and potential destroyed by poor control mechanics. At first this was amazing. Love the inside of the truck cabin. Love the interaction and the general concept of Star Trucker but this is where is all ends. This game is way (way) over complicated with the physics of space. Seriously, I'm using a keyboard and having to manage all the physics of space is total and complete frustration. I spent almost an hour just trying to dock the truck and still never succeeded. I did get fined for careless driving and I hit into many object while attempting to control the truck. How these controls were a good idea, I cannot possibly conceive. The name of the game is literally "Star Trucker" and therefore I should be focused on actually flying through space in a Big Truck and not trying to figure how to used impossible Keyboard controls Vs space physics! For the love of Gamers and Developers everywhere, Go Play Freelancer, No Man's Sky, Star Wars Outlaws...
I don't usually write reviews but I think this game deserves one. It's one of those rare games nowadays that stays true to its simulation and, because of that, offers a proper challenge. For long I've been looking for a game with space trading that rewards good piloting and doesn't kill the main element of the game with QoLs like "automated docking systems". I considered making a game like this, considering how rare it is. In my opinion, most of the criticism against it is due to players being too used to being pampered with arcade-style gameplay where they never suffer the consequences of their mistakes! There are several mechanics with different levels of importance to which the player must pay attention to. Driving carefully to avoid damaging the truck and the haul, making sure systems are functional and fuel tank is sufficient before starting a job, making sure cabin temperature is adequate and you don't freeze to death, planning the trip to avoid dangerous areas/areas where your...
First few minutes were great! I loved being able to get out of the seat and walk around. Then I got to the next section where it told me to "Go to the way point" there was no way point. And then I realised there was no vertical thrusters. Immediately lost interest.
