I'm having an absolute blast so far. As a great fan of turn-based strategy games, this hits the right spot on several levels. Is the game perfect? No, not at all. But is it fun? Heck yes. The combat is wonky but the artstyle is a whimsical whirlwind. It is absolutely charming, the characters are varied and likable. The music is also very mellow when exploring and exciting when combat happens. The combat itself is somewhat basic, but the concept of not directly being in control is a delight. It makes me want to keep on playing to find a good party composition and hope for more complexity in the combat gameplay. The overall sound mixing can be a little bit off by default, but this is easily remedied by altering the sound settings a little to your liking. I would personally love to see a "hardcore mode", where companion death is permanent, as well as more camera controls during combat. But man does that mage sprint feel good. This game will give you a very well-developed middle finger ...

About This Game
I HAD A PLAN!
You are a Wizard. A brilliant Wizard, with a brilliant plan. Unfortunately you also have team mates. As you make your way through dungeons and enchanted forests alike, you need to manage your team mates… and your frustration. I Had A Plan! is a Tactical Roguelite Semi-Autobattler, which takes place in a 3D world with Hex Grids, using 2D Characters.

GIVE COMMANDS!
You don’t fight with your Wizard directly, instead you can give your team orders, which they might follow. If they do listen, they follow your orders and get a small bonus to that action. If they do not however, your frustration grows. Your frustration meter is vital, once it fills up, there is only one answer: Fireball.

WATCH THEM FIGHT!
Don't feel like telling them what to do? Maybe they're smart enough to win by themselves! Or maybe they're not, and they'll burn, it's a win-win!

AND MUCH MORE!
- Find new Characters to Recruit!
- Equip your team with insane weapons!
- Use magical Charms to shape your run and break the game!
- Choose your path through mysterious Realms!
- Discoveries, Realm Quests and Metaprogression will keep you coming back!

Very fun concept of trying to lead a band of headstrong adventurers who'd really rather just do their own thing. It gives a nice twist to 'strategy' and it really adds that feeling of playing an actual TTRPG where you honestly just can't know what your party members are planning. Definitely recommend trying this game!
Just finished my first couple of hours. Honestly, hilarious seeing my wizard losing his cool when my allies ignore commands. Combat feels fresh every time. Highly recommended!
Funny, strategic, looks good. Perfect game to play after work when you need a laugh and some tactical challenges.
Kinda dumb. "You also have teammates" No, no that's not true at all. You're not part of the team, you're more like a bystander shouting advice to them. Kind of like a stalker with a megaphone, you follow these fighters around and act bossy, sometimes they'll listen, sometimes they won't...after all, you're not actually in the party and their leade whom they might actually have some reason to listen to. You yourself don't actually participate in the fights. You're supposedly a great wizard...well, get on the battlefield and PARTICIPATE. Nope, that's not this game, this game is watch things happen and DON'T participate. Would be so much better if your wizardly greatness was also on the battle stage, then maybe I'd see this working. That's what I thought it was, but it isn't. Also, the camera is too close. Uncomfortably so. Let me be more zoomed out so I can see the battlefield better, since I'm not actually participating in the fights there's no reason to have everything be point blank ...
Didn't really like the gameplay of it. Felt a little too out of my control a bit. Also, the AI voice acting felt too off to my ears. I'd rather go play another strategy game.
Updated - After bugfix the game is not crashing anymore. Some minor optical mistakes in the fields of play. But overall its fun. I hope more content is coming but so far i love the promise of this game. Feels that i am going to love this, but already crashed twice. Not sure yet, but for now i recommend it. The support from the developer is great.
Very fun game to watch your allies grow, then they decide not to listen which does add to the experience of a TTRPG, hope they do what you hope them to do and by the grace of the gods, you somehow manage to actually do progress a lot, like you know... I Had A Plan :D
Played through the first area so far, interesting concept for sure with a mix of auto battling with a chance for the player to influence the decision making. Game also has a good sense of humor and clearly doesn't take itself too seriously. Runs good on steam deck so far, although UI can be a bit small sometimes, but I'm sure that can be resolved in the future. Going to hop back in soon to continue on =)
Intelligence actually being a useful stat is refreshing. Dumb characters do dumb things, pretty cool.
