A good Castlevania clone, but a terrible game in technical terms, with no Steam Cloud, no quality-of-life improvements, problems running on Steam Deck, and an old, outdated engine. If you want to sell games, you need to use modern tools.
Chronicles of the Wolf Is well polished There lies within a level of professionalism, showmanship and love for the genre that even fans of the series are doing, this is what "Bloodstained should have been". Although that is a lot to say, I am still of the mind of chicken and egg theory that one could not exist without the other This game is a good example of shitposting your way to being a content creator or in the case of hunter s Thompson, i wanted to write the entire great Gatsby on my typewriter so i could get a feel how a great story is written Usually, the multiple endings of most game aspect feels forced and is at the end of a game in this case, they are Chrono Trigger like and can happen at various decision points of the game which is much more realistic I was offered to offer to join the cult of the wolf and i said sure, fuck it, and got the worst ending possible or i decided to fight the wolf with no knowledge of what I was doing and died but to the player that t...
A superb tribute to the metroidvania-style action rpg genre made by a team who knows these kinds of games from back to front. Not merely an imitation of the classics, Chronicles of the Wolf strives to improve upon the formula that made Castlevania a 2D titan, avoiding the all-too-common pitfall of replicating the older games' flaws without understanding why. Excellent 2D pixel artwork, background, and music design are all included in this fairly substantial game about a knight hunting a demonic werewolf cult in the French countryside. I'm finishing this off with 21 hours and only about two of those were me getting stuck or not knowing where to go. I found the game to be on the very easy side for the first half of the game, which is what I usually expect: A lot well-designed but mostly insubstantial enemies and some light platforming. Then, you get to the second act and the kid gloves come off. Enemies are dangerous without late-game gear, and there are death traps everywhere. At that ...
An excellent metroidvania that brings back the joy I felt playing the classics as a kid! More people need to play this game!
best game of all time
Absolutely wonderful game for all fans of oldschool SotN-style Castlevania games, so much more content and quality than I expected from such a small indie developer. Lots of really nice-looking large sprites, HUGE bosses, satisfying gameplay and catchy tunes. And hearing Robert Belgrade again is always a huge plus for fans like me. There are some nitpicks; a large amount of progression items only really useful in one or two specific places, various upgrades tied to specific gear pieces (though this gets better as you progress and find more gear that covers multiple such abilities), several lengths of the game that feel incredibly linear before/between more open parts, and a couple very minorly disappointing aspects to the gameplay such as Rifles feeling wholly underwhelming as a weapon type and weapon special attacks being identical across all weapons of that category (and there's only four categories), and wishing quite badly there was a speed-boost or normal ground dash with a h...
man those wolf fights suck, and I can't stand "multiple endings" based around the idea of you just not finding an item or triggering some sequence. I don't care if some game did it in the 90s. these things would be forgivable if the game wasn't just another mid metroidvania with clunky controls. the game is also surprisingly easy with little in terms of original ideas. not sure what you're supposed to get out of it.
Excellent Castlevania clone, thoroughly enjoyed this one.
Looks to be a good game, but has way too many technical problems.
