About This Game

When reality feels like it's falling apart, one might retreat to a world in their dreams to escape it.

Unfotunately, dreams aren't made to last.

Explore a perverse image of noble living. Grow strong, and free those trapped within this rotten dream.

A game originally made for the Metroidvania Month 19 game jam, this extended edition brings new areas, enemies, story, and a visual overhaul, all while retaining the original dreamlike atmosphere.

Game Features

  • Classic metroidvania action in 3D! Find your own way through Castle Sansa with open ended level design.
  • Unique platforming gameplay! Abilities such as the air kick let you tackle problems how you see fit, with a blend of tight challenges and smooth exploration.
  • Face a littany of foes! Combat is light and keeps movement at its core.
  • Retro inspiration! Experience a visual and audio aesthetic inspired by 5th-gen consoles, with modern gameplay refinements.
  • A satisfying bite size experience! Pseudoregalia manages to give you a condensed but full metroidvania playthrough in just a few hours, but is highly replayable with different routes to take!

The existence of a goonerslop game implies the existence of a goonergem game. That's what this is.

Such a short but unique platformer. As someone who worries about sequence breaking in other games, this game was such a good way for me to put aside traditional progression and focus on gameplay.

Game's main aspect is platforming, it's not too harsh, and definitely not unforgiving, if it does feel so, you are doing it wrong or you haven't gotten the needed powerup, so you gotta explore more. There's quite a few powerups which improve your movement and allow you to get to new areas, so don't uninstall when the movement feels too bland in the beginning. It gets very fun and satisfying as you go. The fighting is not complex by any means but nevertheless its very fun, i felt like there wasn't enough of it haha. Exploring isn't too tedious, you have a pretty okay map. It doesn't display anything other than what room you are in. The world itself isn't too huge but you are going to backtrack and explore everything again. There's also these time trials for when the game feels too easy, they are quite hard, rewards are cosmetic skins. I think my only complaints are that the game is too dark, and the controls kept breaking. I didn't 100% the game and it took me like 9 hours. So overall ...

Absolutely crazy performance. The level design is top notch, and I believe the artstyle highly helps enabling the focus on the level design and in the mechanics. Still a pretty game, and highly stylized on n64 titles. Never played Castlevania 64, but seems to be highly inspired by it. Handful of secrets, which I love. I started progressing too much because of the slide-backwards-jump in the very beginning of the game, which made me struggle a lot in some areas, almost getting soft locked (lol). I figured it was intentional and I was supposed to use it to progress. I love the time trials, even though they gave me a huge headache in the start. Truly made me get my skill checked and train again and again. Makes me wish there were more trials like that. I played half the game without map or long slide jump, but I believe that was for the best. I loved the challenge, and getting used to the map was really fun. Top-notch. Difficult for my brain to wrap around because of the way the kic...

I respect this game, but I don't like this game - I don't think it was made for me. I imagine it has to be very satisfying if you master it, but it's very punishing until you do - there are many, MANY places in the game where messing up a jump means backtracking all the way to the start of the room and re-climbing most of the platforms to try again. The same button can do several different things depending on context, which means being slightly wrong in your timing can result in you doing something completely opposite to what you wanted and screwing you over - jumping too late out of a wall ride, for example, may result in you pressing jump while in midair instead of while touching the wall, resulting in a kick instead of a jump, sending you in the wrong direction. Many mechanics have very nuanced timings and interactions, which, again, is great for skill expression if you've mastered the game, but for the inexperienced makes things feel buggy or inconsistent - many different things ca...

You might be tempted to think the main draw of this game its aesthetically pleasing main character, and while they're a sight for sore eyes, what ends up drawing you in is the tight platforming, immersive soundtracks and honestly quite deep movement tech. If you're a fan of metroidvanias (more metroid than vania) this game is worth a try.

Overall I enjoyed it, the movement (the primary game mechanic) is enjoyable and gets moreso as you gather your powerups. The frustrations I had were mostly my own fault for being a big dummy and not paying attention. There's NO guidance/handholding so it's entirely on you to make note of your surroundings so that you know what areas are now accessible when you get a new ability. The ending was extremely abrupt and there isn't really much of a story if that matters to you. Actual time to beat: 10-12 hours, but a LOT of that was me wandering in circles

I don't really like this game, but I can recognize how much people do. I recommend to at least give this game a chance, as even though I couldn't enjoy it, there's a chance you might.

All around just a really stellar platformer The main thing Pseudoregalia does well is remarkably good feeling movement that is fun to mess with (even for a less than remarkable player such as myself), and the world the game gives you to use what you learn is, while challenging at times, really fun to explore. Now the other aspects of the game such as the story and general telling you where to go and do are pretty ambiguous, which personally I loved gives me plenty of room to interpret and investigate what I believe is important, but for those who are not fans of not being told whats going on or what you as a player should do this might not be your cup of tea. Regardless I feel the game is a great purchase for anyone because its like 8 dollars for hours of fun goofy platforming nonsense.

Never in my life have I ever finished a game and felt like I owe the developers more money than I paid for the game. Seriously, this game is a straight up 10/10. Perfect controls, wonderful music, absolute peak character design, really appealing visuals and game design so good you can pick up and learn mechanics just by playing with barely any guidance. Mastering Sybil's controls was actually an incredible joy, I seriously cannot possibly recommend this game enough. Masterpiece.
