About This Game

It all started when you left…
In "It Comes In Waves", you'll play as a lone outcast on a dangerous desert planet, trying to grow a specimen to bring to The Sanctuary. How can you grow anything in a world this barren?

It is a very personal, experimental and minimalist game.

The World
Eremar Prime is a harsh and unforgiving place. You'll need to scavenge for resources, fight off raiders and make tough choices to survive. You can also visit the local town (but don't expect a welcoming crowd).

Gameplay
"It Comes In Waves" is a minimalist game that combines exploration, combat, and resource management in a unique way. Water is the main resource. It constantly evaporates if you are out in the desert, so you will need to collect more or improve your equipment’s efficiency. Otherwise, you WILL die.

If you die, there is no reloading. You have to start fresh.

Good tight 30 minute experience. I feel the game has a lot going for it that it doesn't fully capitalize on. Like the survival aspect is very easy. The only time I was threatened was when I fell down a slope that wasn't obviously slippery and took 75% falling damage, which sapped all my water and left me dying of thirst. And unfortunately health drains faster than water it seems. Specially if you got some of the efficiency upgrades. The combat feels good, even though the AI's range to shoot back is quite limited and I don't think I had to dodge a single bolt of fire. It was wild to me that the game is littered with guns with different stats for you to find, but there is effectively like 2 combat encounters in the whole game. All to say, the world didn't really feel as hostile as the description wants you to think it will be. Almost making the game feel like 80% walking sim,. There are long stretches empty space between points of interest where you're just walking with nothing but...

What dune awakening wishes it was. The story and setting leave much to the interpreter, which I like. The art design is cool. The monuments and statues feel Nausicaa-esque. The water management system kept me moving but didnt feel unfair. The ending was beautiful. Beat it in an hour and change. A good experience, would recommend.

It's hard to do this type of review, as the game is three dollars. Do I regret paying three dollars to support a game developer? No. I won't be refunding it because frankly i've paid more for less. That said, was this game worth my time, only a mere 30 minutes? Not really. Maybe I just didn't "get it", but the game felt like an unfinished concept that maybe was fun in the developers mind, but was monotonous in gameplay. The gameplay consisted of walking for half an hour from location to location, one or two of which were relatively inspired in a star wars esque world, but that's about it. The rest of the 90% of the game is walking through a stale desert with npcs that barely function. Maybe it was meant to get my mind wandering, and I tried, but after I saw a group of them attack another, and then accidentally shoot one another and start blasting eachother, I realized they were just minimally coded npcs thrown in to give the world something. Most areas have nothing in them, nothing to ...

Great atmosphere, cool concept, gameplay is fun, but don’t expect to play much longer than 1h. Apart from that, the art and sound design also stands out. Dense world building! 4/5
