What is Smart-Pause Game (SPG)

To merge the tactical depth of turn-based strategy games with the dynamic action of real-time strategy games, we developed a pause system in Pirate Patrol called Smart Pause Gameplay (SPG).

SPG can be understood through the lens of the Real-Time with Pause (RTwP) system found in many real-time games. However, Smart Pause takes this concept further by enhancing the player's sense of control within a real-time environment. With SPG, the game automatically pauses based on the player's input and intent, enabling smooth and intuitive tactical decision-making. This allows players to plan and issue commands while the action continues, without the need to constantly hit a pause button or deal with jarring interruptions caused by scripted or repetitive events.
