If Arrakis went through the kind of political instability that was explained in Fallout: New Vegas. This game doesn't really care if you play it or not. That's what makes it so good. The best way to start is to ask yourself; if I woke up in this exact situation, what would be my first order of business? Whoever wrote this game is incredible.

FEATURES
Freeform gameplay in a seamless game world in the largest single-player RPG world since Daggerfall, stretching over 870 square kilometers. The game will never seek to limit you or restrict your personal play style.
Custom design as many characters as you want and build up a whole squad to fight for you. Characters will grow and become stronger with experience, not just in their stats but their appearance too.
Build a base where you can research new technologies, upgrade your defences and craft new gear.

Original take on the RTS-RPG hybrid genre. No "hero" characters with artificially stronger stats than everybody else- Every character and NPC you meet is potentially an equal, and has a name, a life.

You are not the chosen one. You're not great and powerful. You don't have more 'hitpoints' than everyone else. You are not the center of the universe, and you are not special. Unless you work for it.

Purchase and upgrade your own buildings to use as safe fortified havens when things go bad, or use them to start up a business.

Variation and possibilities of gameplay. Be good, be evil, be a businessman, be a thief, live in a town, live in the desert, travel alone, travel in hordes, build a fortress, raze a city. Devote yourself to freeing slaves, or maybe end up a slave yourself.

Dynamic, ever changing world. Support or hinder whoever you wish, or keep to yourself, the world won't stop moving. This is not just a "game", you are living and surviving in a simulated world.

Get captured by cannibals and eaten alive, or sold off by slavers and forced to work in the mines. These are not scripted events, just a regular part of this chaotic world that ruins your life by chance. Anything can happen, yet anything can be overcome if you have the strength.

Absolutely no Level-scaling. The world does not level up along with you, and the shops don't change their inventory to only items matching your level. At the start of the game almost everyone will be stronger than you, and survival will always be a struggle. The game won't hold your hand or help you when you're down.

Realistic medical system that affects gameplay. A character with a wounded leg will limp or crawl and slow the party down, wounded arms means you must use your sword one-handed or not at all. Severe injuries will result in amputees needing robotic limb replacements. Blood loss means you can pass out, and the blood will attract predators. A character’s stats are affected by equipment, encumbrance, blood loss, injuries and starvation.

Intelligent AI that allows for characters to reason and work towards long-term goals and desires. Squads work together and carry their wounded to safety. Characters can be setup to take care of micromanagement for you and run production in your base.

Aid or oppose the various factions in the world while striving for the strength and wealth necessary to simply survive in the harsh environment.

Independently developed with no design influences, or alterations dictated by men in gray suits who have never played a game before in their lives.

Original game world. There are no fantasy-knock-off cliches. No magic.

Kenshi gets too much crap for its graphics. Yes, if you look closely it can look ugly and some textures are bad but it wont take you out of the experience, the skybox at night and the environments are beautiful. So many cool landmarks to witness... It’s an open-world sandbox RPG with base building where you can live a simple life as a hunter, become a slaver, or be a settler. There isn’t much dialogue, it’s not that kind of game. You have to make your own story, and there are endless opportunities to do so. Despite my characters never speaking, I still grew very attached to them, and I’m sure you’ll get attached to your own. You always have to be cautious! No matter how strong you get, or how big your squad is (unless you’ve got a fully trained army always following you but i recommend having under 9 people, less hassle), you can always be ambushed or wander into something deadly. ALWAYS be aware… I lost two great people I spent hours leveling because I wasn’t paying ...
You will be playing this game for a while, think to yourself; "I'm kind of tired, I should take a break," only to find that it is now 1:00 AM, you started playing at three in the afternoon, and you wonder to yourself: "How the hell?!" You spent all of that time building a house, which then got raided by ninjas who cut your legs off. 11/10 Game Kenshi is a fully sandbox RPG-RTS mix. You are free to do whatever the game mechanics allow on a surprisingly huge map with dynamic factions, trade simulation, fully offline character simulation (things are still happening in real-time off screen), with classic RPG things like stat leveling and gear collecting. You can play it like a city management game, a trade tycoon, a grand strategy, or simply be an adventurer, akin to playing D&D by yourself. Kenshi is also extremely mod-friendly with a built in mod manager so you can change it to suit your personal preferences.
This is the textbook definition of "don't judge a book by it's cover" at first I purchased this I played like 1-2 hours and I just got rekt repeatedly then I took a long haitus from it, then I decided to try it again and I got amazed by the depth of the gameplay. Pros: -You can be whoever you want, be good or be evil as much as you want. -Almost all the glitches like getting stuck and honestly all of the ones I encountered, can be fixed by importing your save, if not there are specific mods to fix it. So it'll always be in working condition. -The world story is very realistic in a socioeconomic way, a lot of bad things happen in the world. But you realize that most if not all of the bad things are sort of required for civilization to survive. -Very good for role-playing, since you make your own story. Might be boring for others, but it offers so much flexibility in terms of replayability. Cons: -The sound effects are just messed up, if you've played for a while you know thos...
Game categories are a nice little thing to describe games. You've got your Action, Adventure, RPG, Shooter, Fighter, Platformer, and others. I could tell you a game is a Fighter and you may say "Cool. Not my thing." Because you have determined that Fighter games aren't your thing. Game categories are very useful in allowing us to seek what we like, and avoid what we don't. I'll be reviewing Kenshi, where I'll monologue my experience, and I'll end it with a cleaned up list of pros and cons. And then you have games that come along that create their own category. Metroidvania was one such thing. And modern times, we now have Soule-like. Games like Medroid, Castlevania, and Dark Souls had their own unique blend of mechanics that warranted the gaming community to create an entirely new category just to better describe the. Kenshi is one such game. I'll die on that hill. Just like it says on the box, in Kenshi, you are not special. You do not have more "hit points" than anyone. Yo...
Kenshi is a cool blend of RTS, RPG, and city builder / manager set in a very interesting world with a very cool backstory that is very difficult to figure out. There are many ways to progress, many ways to play, and a lot of stuff to try. This game is unforgiving, but it teaches you quickly how to survive through gameplay and minimal tutorial. While most games make the player feel like the main character in a story, Kenshi's appeal lies in the fact that players very much feel like a small, insignificant part of a world that continues on just fine with or without their involvement. All characters have perma-death. You create a character in the beginning, but the game doesn't end if that character dies. You're able to recruit countless others into your party, and as long as you still have one living party member, the game continues. In this way, Kenshi constantly and uniquely reminds the player, "you are not special. You are not chosen. You are not significant."
I saw somewhere someone said "Kenshi doesn't hate you it just doesn't care that you exist" is a great way to describe this great game, its hard and unfair at times but what else to you expect in a post-post-post apocalyptic world?
This game is something else, I'm boggled by how unpopular this game is. This a game to allow more freedom than GTA 5 and you can be anything you want (In game limitation of course but really you could be anything) and It's safe to say that the price is worth it if you love punishing sandbox rpgs. I love this game so much and it helped me in hard times. I've put 400 and such into this game and so many different play styles have been explored. IF you ever get bored of this game there is still a massive modding community and Chris Hunt blessed us With the Forgotten Construction Set and that thing is so fun to play around with. I hope this review helps you to see how good Kenshi is, and it's okay not to be the big guy sometimes and destroy everyone in a video game, this is a game where you have to become the winner and not spawn in as one, there are no second chances. This Is Kenshi.
Kenshi is a fucking brutal game, but the more you get the shit kicked out of you, the more your character learns and improves, and working to get money while training to kick more ass makes you stronger. Better gear, better training, and more resistance to getting hit in the shins with a metal pole will result in finally dealing that band of hobos that have been bothering you. Maybe, one day, you'll even be able to fight a group of actual bandits!
Kenshi is a really great game. I played it for a long time with and without mods. Waiting on Kenshi 2 to come out. I wish that the game had more content along the lines of making the world feel more interactive/real. But that may take away from the "feel" of the game. 10/10
