MIXED rating A turn-based RPGmaker game where you choose your main character. It's mainly fun because of the great battles. Each potential main character has a distinctive and inventive playstyle. For example the witch draws tarot cards each turn to determine her moves, and she has a cat familiar. And the enemy design is incredibly challenging on hard mode, but still balanced to make each encounter speedy. I ultimately dropped the game because I didn't vibe with the artwork, story, character progression, or exploration. But for some the combat will carry them through it.

About This Game

Tower Song is a compelling RPG melding the classic JRPG and CRPG genres of the 1990’s into a unique mixture of deliberate turn-based combat and colorful, pixel-art worlds.

Every encounter in Tower Song is unique and never repeated or respawned, but foes are that much more lethal. Malevolent towerborne and cunning echobeasts execute deadly stratagems while always revealing their intent to the player. With good preparation and clever choices, players can carry the day. (The campaign also offers multiple difficulty modes!)

Players access new skills, skill modifications, and crafting recipes as they progress the main quest. Loadouts can be easily changed between encounter attempts, and players can re-craft their equipment at campfires to suit their playstyle. Of course, curious players will find even more unique and empowering equipment hidden amongst the nooks and crannies of the Towers.

Players choose from multiple heroes to complete Tower Song's engaging 10-hour campaign. Each hero is equipped with unique battle mechanics, can explore otherwise unreachable areas of the world, and has a unique perspective on the main quest storyline. To succeed, players will also have to recruit deadly sniper Solace, magical swordsman Kiran and master of the elements Akeno. These Mana Knights will join forces to delve into the harrowing depths of the eldritch Towers and fight across the overgrown forests of Guhar and the desert expanse of Kidonia to liberate their allies from a terrible naga invasion.

Two Towers haunt the landscapes of Tower Song, and players must unravel their mysteries to save Solace's sister and the desert metropolis of Qadam. Along the way, players will traverse across forests, rivers, deserts and more. After a hard day’s work, they can also pause to get to know their party better at camp. With one central plot but four unique perspectives, players will always have something new to discover on subsequent playthroughs.

Tali is a mistress of dark magic, pulling Tarot cards from her Dark Deck to access spells and inflict devious curses on her enemies. Jiji, Tali's cat familiar, is his own party member in combat, tearing into opponents with his claws and protecting the party with his nekomata's barrier.

Porphry is a battle-hardened warrior wielding a very large, very dangerous axe. Her abilities send her into a Battle Trance, allowing her to access game-changing moves before pushing her over the edge into an uncontrollable berserker rage!

Ezoan is a crafty engineer and spellcaster. He summons scorching fire and soothing auras to support his team before hopping into his exosuit to punish foes with overwhelming force.

Neat is the ultimate tempo-fighter. Quick to strike and even quicker on his feet, Neat strings together combos to unlock an ever-changing skillset as combat progresses, before turning the tide with powerful finishing moves.

I just rolled credits, and this game is great. The writing is great, the battle system is great, the world is an interesting place, and the music really sets the mode, making a really creepy vibe sometimes. I always think it's funny when some indy title has way better writing than your typical AAA title, and this is one. The world is an interesting mix of fantasy, science fiction, and eldritch energy. And I liked the battle system, your characters change; the enemies change; there's lots to discover and try. I only had to redo the last battle, but I came close to losing many times. This is not a battle system where you turn your brain off and spam the same attack over and over. Definitely worth your time and money if you like RPG's and don't mind an indy title.
