About This Game

Distance is an atmospheric racing platformer. Fusing futuristic arcade racing with parkour, survive a deadly, mysterious, neon-drenched city by jumping, rotating, and flying.

The roads are treacherous with obstacles around every corner. Instead of doing laps on a loop, survive to the end in the quickest time. Your car has abilities that not only allow you to drive on the track, but upside down and on buildings and walls! You can also fly to discover new shortcuts and paths. Take on the roads alone, or in multiplayer with your friends!

The game is a spiritual successor to the multi-award winning Nitronic Rush, created by ourselves and 5 others at DigiPen Institute of Technology. It was widely praised for its innovative mechanics, visual style, audio design, and atmosphere.

Key Features

  • Adventure: A short single player experience. Drive into the heart of a dark, mysterious city as you pursue an ominous threat.
  • Arcade: Race ghosts to take on the leaderboards' best. Earn medals to unlock new tracks in several different modes.
  • Multiplayer: Online (up to 12 players) and split-screen (2-4 players) play in modes such as Sprint, Reverse Tag, Stunt, etc.
  • Trackmogrify: Random track generation with advanced seed modifiers.
  • VR: Full VR integration with support for Oculus Rift CV1 and HTC Vive.
  • Level editor: Use a powerful level editor to create levels from within the game and share them with players around the world. Over 2,500 levels have already been shared on Steam Workshop!

Oh it's good fun until it tells you the car can fly. Then it wants you to FLY THE CAR ALL OF THE TIME AFTER THAT. If you like flying games, go for it - If you wanted a driving game, nope it out, you aint getting a driving game here.

This game, on sale for it's $2.50 is such a deal. The game itself is pretty neat, with a stark contrast between speed and lighting. The way the environment directs you through the roads themselves is really nice. It does get hit and miss at times in the later stages with tracks not lighting up, controls being a little too touchy at times or the absurd moments of extreme difficulty spikes, I spent about 30 minutes on 2 stages aka 1/5th of my playtime on 2 stages. there are somewhere 30 stages total spread between 3 chapters. Another good portion was me testing out the VR aspect of the game. Gee golly, don't be like me, don't subject yourself to that hell. It's super cool and immersive, but you're forced into first person perspective in the cockpit of the car. There is a reason games with XYZ movements are typically in 3rd person. It was rough to put it lightly. Slow, trepidatious and overall miserable in a game all about speed. They give you an option to add your own music to the game, ...

Worth it when it's on sale. In Distance, sometimes you vibe, but sometimes there are movement mechanics to mix things up. At times it makes me feel like I'm not sure if I should be in sit back and vibe mode, or leaned forward high-octane mode. At least respawns are quick. The levels that rely on rotating midair during flight are BS, and literally the tutorial on it tells you to use it, but you can only pass that level without using it.

Best arcade/music racer out there and also greatly polished as for indie with only 3 devs.

I’m not usually into racing games, but I thought this was pretty fun. The music and visuals are amazing, and the racing mechanics feel really tight and well designed. There’s 3 “campaigns” (collections of levels with a loose story) and a bunch of challenge/sprint/etc levels. The first campaign took me ~2 hours to complete and only had a few frustrating moments. The second campaign lost me, there were too many moments where you had to perfectly execute a jump+rotate+boost move and if you messed up a tiny bit you had to start over. So that wasn’t fun and meant I couldn’t see the third campaign as a result. I played a few arcade levels and thought they were fun, but it’s not really my thing. Overall though I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who likes racing games. If you’re not into racing games but think the game looks interesting, I’d recommend picking it up on sale and trying it out!

Very fun! Awesome sound design and music. Cool visuals and good speed. Easy to learn but hard to master. PLAY THIS GAME! I hope the developer continues to make games after this. I seem to have picked it up after its prime so multiplayer isn't alive anymore, which is a damn shame. There needs to be more games like this!
