This game is very similar to the "Ori and the blind forest" series, in terms of gameplay (Plateformers/metroidvania). It is... okay. If I had to put a mark, I would say it is about a 6.5/10. If you really liked Ori and are still waiting for a similar title (keufkeuf Silksongkeufkeuf), then I would recommend having a look at it (despites its issues). If you are not a strong fan of the genre, pass your way. Positive: + The graphisms/environnements are good. + The music is good. + It is rare to have a game using African mythology, and that was one of the arguments that have motivated me to give this game a try. Neutral: o Nothing that innovative o No hard puzzles. The difficulty is coming from (optionals) combat challenges or plateforming sections. o There is some slight backtracking, but the map is made such that it is very easy to know in which section the missing element is. Negative: - This is one of the kind of game where the look of a level was prioritized over its...

Fun, straightforward action platformer. Beautiful visuals, great music. The story's a nice coming-of-age story born from loss. If you're looking for a metroidvania, this ain't it. But if you're looking for a fun way to spend a few hours jumping around and destroying the occasional monster, this is for you. Bonus: You start with double-jump and wall-slide abilities, which I love. It's such a trope to have to earn those abilities in like every other game! But in Tales of Kenzera: ZAU, you start off being able to do cool stuff, and that's a nice change of pace.
As Ori and the Blind Forest fan, this is a must play game.
This was super fun until the sudden time run with the fire spear and ice water falls. Absolutely not, this literally ruined the game for me. My fingers can not function fast enough or without getting confused to do this part. I'm so freakin' annoyed cause I was actually enjoying this. I know there are people out there that are super coordinated, but I'm not one. Because of this I rarely find 2D platform games I can actually enjoy as most want complicated mechanics. And the sad thing is I could have try to work through any other mechanics, but not time-based obstacle. I literally can not.
Into Act 2 and for some reason after getting a power up I am now forced to manual aim moon light attack as the game will no longer aim along the ground, but straight up. Game was not that fun, engaging, well written up until this point. At 60% its strongly in the maybe category otherwise just skip or watch someone else play it for what little story there is. Very disappointed having been really excited for this game after playing the demo.
Had the game on a different platform. Bought the game on discount to support the devs and leave this positive review.
Very good fairytale based on the Bantu myths. Rarely do we see African colorite in games, so it is good to have this game as one of the examples. Gameplay is not too challenging, but it can force you to replay some running sequences several times before succeeding. Great for kids, especially to deliver some timeless truths about dealing with loss and grief.
A good but not exceptional metroidvania. I enjoyed the story, but it's exploration and combat vs fairly average. The game is rather short. It ran well on my steam deck with a few rooms causing noticeable FPS drops and crashed once. Closest comparison game would be Ori and the Blind Forest although not as good. Both have rather frustrating escape sequences. I think the game is worth picking up on sale.
Beautiful in more ways than one.
should've won game of the year... the story... the gameplay.... was great from start to finish. similar to ori and the blind forest.
