About This Game

Powered by the Essence Engine 3.0, the Company of Heroes 2 series feature some unique mechanics rewarding thoughtful players. From the TrueSight™ system that emulates the units’ line of sight to the cover-system that encourages clever unit placement – not to mention the combined arms approach and the hard and soft counters gameplay that will make you think twice before trying to destroy a tank with a simple squad of riflemen – each game presents players with an uninterrupted stream of meaningful tactical choices that can turn the tide of war.

PICK YOUR FIGHT

NB: multiplayer standalones allow you to play on any map against anyone owning any COH2 product.

The Company of Heroes 2 base game gives you access to two multiplayer armies from the Eastern Front: the Red Army (SOV) and the Wehrmacht Ostheer (GER). It also comes with a gritty single-player campaign that will give you a chance to familiarize yourself with the series core tenets. Step into the boots of a Soviet commander of the Red Army, entrenched in brutal frontline warfare to free Mother Russia from the Enemy invaders! Adjust your tactics to take into account the brutal weather conditions and wield the might of the Soviet Empire as you smash your way to Berlin.

Company of Heroes 2: The Western Front Armies adds two new factions from the Western Front to the roster of playable multiplayer armies: the Oberkommando West (OKW) and the US Forces (USF). While the former puts you in charge of an aggressive and powerful army with very specialized and elite units – yet in very limited numbers – the latter introduces an expeditionary corps that allows for a variety of approaches and very powerful combined arms tactics, but which inevitably falls a bit short in the heavy armor department.

Company of Heroes 2: Ardennes Assault offers a compelling single-player campaign for the USF faction revolving around the Battle of the Bulge. Engage in a dynamic non-linear campaign across the Ardennes landscape consisting of 18 scenarios, choose between three iconic companies, customize their abilities and bear the consequences of your actions as overall company health persists between missions.

Company of Heroes 2: The British Forces is the latest entry in the series and features this iconic Allied army from WWII (UKF). Experience a unique tech-tree that challenges the player to balance the constant trade-off between mobility and defense. Surprise your opponents with your development choices and an open end game configuration. Enjoy an army with character and distinctive units & abilities, from the Churchill Crocodile flamethrower tank to the RAF glider.

I really wanted to like this game. I loved the first, but this game is a far cry from it. The campaign was decent enough, but what really kills this game is the garbage level monetization and trash DLCs. You only get access to two factions with the base game, which is absolutely unacceptable for any RTS, even in 2013. I am struggling to remember any other RTS that has released with only two factions since Warcraft 2...and that was 1995. Even the first game had four factions and this game cut it in half, unless you want to pay more money to get access to other factions. The limited faction choice in the base game isn't even the worst part. Some of the best Commanders are only available through MXT, which determine the kind of upgrades and sometimes even the units that you can produce. They also sell "Intel Bulletins" which are straight boosts that do things like increase how fast units produce, increase accuracy, decrease cooldown, and whole host of other passive boosts. Aside from t...

One of the greatest games ever made. One of the most perfectly balanced multiplayer games of all time as well. An absolute gem that holds up today. They should have never made COH3 and just added content to this game.

The only thing that I don't like about this game is the UI. The old UI from Company of Heroes 1 was better :> Overall, this game is great

Was a solid game until 3 came out, and is now obsolete. Came back to it for the first time in 3 years after a long time of playing it and being able to beat Expert AI, and immediately got pissed off at the level of RNG nonsense that they purposefully and rightfully removed in 3. TTK is too fast compared to 3, and you'll constantly have guys get blown up by RNG-based explosives scatter that happens to hit the right spot at the right time and wipe your squad. Again, 3 fixed this issue, and the only MTX it has are skins, with DLC offering new battlegroups, but you know that before buying the game and not after, unlike this game. If you dislike the lack of maps in 3, download modded ones. The pathfinding is also god awful compared to 3.

One of the best RTS game, especially with friends and mod :) Vanilla is useless, bulletproof troops and artillery resistant squads are not fun at all. I recommend AKULA World at War mod, in my opinion it has the best balance between realism and fun. Of course as the first one, optimization is crap and Relic are rats with their DLCs. Just make sure you have the 5 factions (everything else is useless) and check out guides for optimization. Works well on Linux with Proton, make sure you follow the guide to copy the right ucrtbase.dll to avoid sync error in multiplayer.
