Ahhh, CRUX. This is one of my long-awaited games that I've been following the development of for quite some time. It's developer is a good friend of mine, and as such have had the chance to playtest the game through various phases of it's development. With all this being said though, I intend for this review to be as objective as possible.
The Review
Gameplay CRUX features 13 arenas over 5 worlds, each getting progressively harder & more chaotic, and as such, more fun. Per any given run, you only get to play 6 arenas in their respective chronological order, meaning almost every run will be different. All the arenas feature unique enemies and boss fights, each with their own movement and ability sets. There are 3 weapons from which you can choose to cause mayhem with. The Shotgun, Plasma Rifle, and Missile Launcher. The game sometimes refers to these as the "Unholy Trinity of Weaponry", which is spot on. All of these weapons include their primary fire, and al...

About This Game
In CRUX you play as a cultist warrior of the blood gods, trained from childhood to undertake the trials of the CRUX. The trials consist of 13 arenas across 5 worlds, where you'll face hordes of demons native to that world. Survive the hordes to earn the right to face the Guardian of the Arena, boss fights unique to each arena that will test your skills with movement, weapons, controlling the arena.
The blood gods watch your step, and for every arena they will bless you with a selection of magic abilities to increase your power. With a selection of over 100 abilities you will have the opportunity to customize your gameplay to suit your playstyle. Whether you want to bust your foes' skulls with the Skullcrusher, chain lightning magic, steal their lifeforce (or much more!), the choice is yours!
Successfully beating all the arenas will land you a spot in the leaderboards. But the true champion is the fastest one, so customize your build and go again to try and get to the top spot!

I grew up on boomer shooters. I am so happy they are making a come back. CRUX is quite fun, has the moreish quality of "Just one more run", and has some pretty cool bosses and upgrades. The levels are tight and full of replenishing items. Occasionally, enemies will spawn out of sight and their pathing is not great, especially on levels with tons of verticality. Guns could also use a little more oomph to them, but overall, this is a really fun experience. Definitely check out the Demo if you are interested. https://youtu.be/MK_1aZXtCRg
It really shows this game was made with love and it's unbelievable to me that one person managed to recreate the original Quake feeling of flow. You move so smoothly through the room it feels like flying once you get the hang of it, and the swarms of enemies keep you hyped up. This game is really just straight-up FUN. There's three types of weapons, each with a secondary mode BUT THE SHOTGUN WINS THE CAKE 🎂 (it ain't a lie). Personally I just love anything that enables mobility and the fact it's in a SHOTGUN blew me away, it's my go-to weapon of choice. Now that there's perks you collect as you advance gives continuity to the session and each time I play I go a different route. Love the space to experiment with different playstyles. Been following this game for a while now, demoed it live before it even was on Steam. I gotta say, this developer LISTENS. So much of the feedback given pre-alpha through to release had been implemented and for me that's dedication to the title & to...
This game is super fun and with all very creative perks each time in different level you can try new combos. My favorite is mixing melee attack with the shotgun. The background music gets you in the mood. I found myself immersed in a gaming experience that not only entertained but also delivered moments of genuine joy!
CRUX is a fantastic addition to the FPS rogue-like genre, offering a thrilling and fast-paced experience. The game's dynamic gameplay, responsive controls, and seamless blend of rogue-like elements make each playthrough exciting and unpredictable. It's a must-play for fans of the genre, delivering an adrenaline-fueled gaming experience that stands out in the world of FPS rogue-likes.
This is definitely one of the more interesting Vampire Survivors like games I've played recently. If it wasn't obvious, this share a huge similarity with Quake series. Think Quake III Arena but with the enemies of modern Doom. I think this game has the potential to become something very interesting later down the line, but it doesn't mean you shouldn't play it now. As others have mentioned, it has hours of content out of the box and a diverse set of perks you can use throughout your runs. As well as a wide variety of enemies and maps to choose from, I'm sure there's more to come in the future. I will come back to this review possibly at a later stage when I've played it more and have a better feel for what the game has to offer. But until then, if you haven't done so already, definitely give the game a go, as I think you'll find this game very enjoyable. Especially if you like Quake/Doom and Vampire Survivors type games.
Recently picked up the game, and its fast paced gameplay is amazing to see in indie games. Especially nice, is the fact that 90s shooters are making a comeback in Steam, and for anyone looking to pick up something in the genre, then don't skip CRUX. Each time you replay the game, it gets more exciting as you get to pick up new skills and level up, and try to beat your past average. The enemies are plenty, and the boss-fights are unique and fun. 10/10 - Fully recommended!
Seems very good game. Fun to kill monsters, and some good parkour. Definitely recommend :D
It's a pretty fun game. The diversity of levels and enemies is on point, and the gameplay is great. It looks to be very replayable which is a big plus. Recommended!
Before I begin I'd like to state that what I'm about to say relates to the state of the game as of 17.04.2024. The game may not be in early access, but there's still a lot of work to do. Let's start with the good stuff. Mechanically the game is solid, I think it's fair to even say it is above average. Weapons are solid, Perks while simple are impactful and Movement is responsive. There are foundations for an awesome game and while this is enough for me to recommend it now, there are issues with it that I would like to point out. The major problem I encountered is something that can be described as Varied Mouse Sensitivity. What does that mean? From my observations, it looks like the mouse sensitivity is dependent on framerate and not in the way one would expect. The lower the framerate, the higher the senstivity becomes, leading to weird situation where in the middle of a fight you suddenly look at the floor or the sky. Since this is an FPS it's pretty much gamebreaking, but it might...
