The game's core plays well and it appears like it would be a good survivor entry, but the gimmick of mutating your spells is entirely random with no influence from the player. This results in repetitive runs that allow no chance of planning future runs, which makes the game utterly boring. This gimmick also makes spells used fresh at the start feel just as powerful as those used deep into a run. I have been looking for a good new survivor game and at first thought this might be one, but unfortunately it does not give the satisfaction I was looking for. Also, with a 3080ti and 11900k, the game slows to a crawl 5 or 10 minutes into a run due to the number of enemies on screen. I'm sure this will be ironed out in time, but I will not be testing to find out.

About This Game

Cast Shape Archetype + Element + Effect = Infinite Incantations
Infinite Incantation uses a robust component spell system that can combine elements, casting styles, and special effects in a variety of different ways. Stryx, your (totally friendly and charming) owl companion can convert the experience points you collect into powerful spells. Like a spell? Or even dislike it? Choose to randomly evolve it into something even stronger, whether through greater power or mutated attributes. The spell will randomly mutate into something even stronger and more wild. Who knows what kind of mayhem that'll ensue? There are hundreds of combinations you could need to adapt to on the fly.

You can customize the type of mage you want to be and how you want to interact with the deep component spell system.
- Level up and upgrade your stats.
- Specialize in certain elemental affinities.
- Build your deck of spell archetype cards before heading out.
- Mutate spells on the fly and roll the dice to see what you get.

- Tear up seemingly endless hordes of monsters and bosses all vying for your demise.
- Twin-Stick Shooter-type controls.
- Cast spells manually or automatically.
- Play with a controller or a keyboard and mouse.
- No scissors or glue required.

really fun game with a lot of replayability. runs great on the steam deck. cant wait for more updates
Enemies are way too fast and there's nothing to really be done about it. No dodge ability or anything. Forced damage isn't fun to grind through. I felt like I had no control over the early game and was just rolling the dice on my spell being better or not. Which I guess is the point, but I'd rather the enemies not be faster than me when I'm at base speed.
I dont like the random. The fact I don't feel strong as I level, I just different. Most of the time I don't even want to mutate since I like what I have then I sit there with a stack of like 15. And still not getting stronger. Plus 3 slots, most of the time I stick to 1 so the other 2 are useless unless I mutate into something I don't like. It is a cool concept but it is lacking. Also feels way to easy to be hit. With very little feed back so you don't even realize you been hit so much let alone have low hp. I do like the idea, just think leveling should do more or we have some control over spells not just 3 randoms.

So far the game has been quite fun, the large variety of spell archetypes (spread patterns) and element combos make you adjust on the fly as mutations (upgrades) change them up. The mutations are instant and don't interrupt the run beyond you needing to adapt to new patterns. That being said, since the mutations are almost entirely random, it is not really feasible to make a build for a run, and it always seems like a gamble upgrading your best spell. One small critique would be the tutorial is not entirely clear until after you've played a run, so perhaps down the line a short tutorial level may be possible? Definitely enjoying the game, and I look forward to seeing how it changes and improves over time.
Graphics may not be the greatest but the gameplay is like a hard drug
a fun little twin stick shooter with a lot of replayability and a nice soundtrack. big fan of the difficulty and how high risk, high reward mutating spells is
fun game
