About This Game

An ongoing apocalyptic meteor shower has forced the world’s population to settle underground. As Shell, a feline child who awakens to find her mother missing, you will drill downward into the depths to discover a hidden subterranean world and its inhabitants: tormented creatures with an uncertain past.

This narrative exploration and platform game inspired by 16-bit aesthetics will take you back to the simplicity and excitement of the classics of that era. There’s a vibrant and dynamic world to explore, and lots of peculiar characters to meet and varied puzzles to solve. Will you discover the secrets hidden in the Everdeep?

Game Features

 • As you descend, your decisions determine Shell’s route through the depths, from secret caverns to sprawling underground dwellings.

 • Encounter characters along the way with unique personalities and, sometimes, optional side quests.

 • Atmospheric pixel art and an evocative soundtrack, with palettes and musical themes shifting from one location to the next.

Is this a bad game? No. Is it a good game? No. Its hard to not be judged against Steamworld Dig when your kinda in the same lane and that game is better in every conceivable way. I did like the aesthetics, even if I found the colors kinda unpleasant. The biggest issue I have is how this game requires a ton of backtracking which is fine and fun, but the map is pure trash and doesn't even highlight half of the stuff you can visit (even after the final upgrade). I got the first ending and get the vibe the others will require I aimlessly wander through the map 100 times trying to remember where on the right-ish I saw a cave in the past. While I was legit intrigued by the shadowy overlords, I honestly doubt doing that will fill in those gaping holes. Grade: D+, C with a decent map. Get it on sale (or just buy it, I'm obviously in the minority here, why are you even reading this?)

Loved it initially, but then the endless running around in confusion with no progress, no hint of where to go or who to give the numerous items I've collected to, it just became irritating and ultimately rage-inducing. I don't have hours to waste revisiting areas with new 'upgrades' only to be met with yet more confusion and no progress. On top of this the map resets when quitting and coming back, so the forced re-drilling of established paths becomes a true slog. This game desperately need a log of some kind. Who have I spoken to? What did they say? What did they give me? Write it down because once you've spoken to them there's no way to read it again. Good luck coming back to this game after a break and working out what to do. Wall-jumping (even with glide upgrade) is true jank. Great visuals and music. Awful, awful design. Wanted to love it, ended up hating it.

Spoilers Ahead! Ye Have been warned! While i'll say i enjoyed the game thoroughly i can't say the endings resonated with me as much as i had hoped...
3 of the 4 endings appear to result in the destruction of the world and the last one does not result in a confirmation that you actually complete what you set out to do in the beginning, which is permanently reuniting with your character's mother... In two of the endings you do reunite with her briefly but in one its 'Uhoh! The world gets destroyed so it was all for not!' and in the other you head down into the hatch and noone can say what happens to you...
That said i loved the music, sound design, and appearance of the characters. Again, i enjoyed the game, it was fun, but the endings left something to be desired...

I really liked the game, but of course it has its faults as I was using keyboard/mouse so it felt clunky. But the developers do recommend using controller for it, so its more of a me problem. As having played the demo, it was interesting how things from the demo were spread all around the map, instead of being in one small place. Also some people want handholding ingame, so They would be guided where or what to do. I find the idea of exploring and figuring things out much nicer. It's not that hard to explore as map is not that big. Really liked how cute Shell was and the artstyle of the characters. Was comfy to play.

Decent, if somewhat janky, platformer in the vein of steamworld dig.

I liked a lot of Everdeep Aurora, and I played it for well over a dozen hours. (I played most of it on steamdeck while offline so steam failed to record it) And.... I dunno. The game itself is a lot of fun in my opinion, there's no combat, it's just puzzles and digging your way through the world and I enjoyed that all the way until the game gave me the option for its first ending. I didn't take it because I wanted to explore some more and get the completionist endings that obviously also had to exist. The problem with this was that as I started doing so, the NPC who offered the option to finish the game disappeared (you get locked out of the first ending if you go completionist and I don't mind that) at this point I had no idea whether the game was working as intended or if I was seriously missing something. So I run around and keep running around and I find more things, sure, but near the end there are very few signposts on where the game wants you to go, with the NPC that will all...

A charming little game! I'll admit the lack of action or stake was a little jarring to me at first, but the game accomplished what it promised. It's quite short, estimate 5ish hours to complete a normal run, though this time can extend a little if you wish to prod for more secrets (or keep backtracking like me looking for alternate interactions). I really enjoyed the digging and exploration aspects, but as a certain NPC hinted at my journey nearing its end, I couldn't help feeling like "oh already?". On a par because I really enjoyed the worldbuilding it presented to end so soon, and perhaps also because a game about digging makes you expect all kind of dives into deep unknowns, so it ended up feeling like I an unscratched itch to close in to the ending so "early" into discovering its inner workings. The platforming is rather smooth and easy to get used to, but as others pointed out, there comes a point where the lack of stake makes it all about how to get to a certain point as fast ...
