About This Game

EMPTY SHELL will throw you in a dark industrial environment, a secret facility on a Japanese island in the middle of nowhere. Each volunteer has signed a contract for a "recovery operation" without being privy to too many details.

They said the facility had been abandoned for decades, but once in place it was immediately apparent that something was wrong.
Discover the dark secrets of the facility's years of operation, up until the accident that led to the extreme consequences you are involved in.

Every time you die, you will control a new volunteer sent to the place. Your starting equipment will be randomized and each level will be generated with a new layout.

Dark corridors and cold rooms. Abominable creatures and bloody fights. Puzzles to solve, equipment, logs and documents to recover await you in this roguelite survival horror.

  • Random generated maps every time you enter a new level or you die
  • A top down perspective surrounded by darkness
  • Scavenge weapons, ammo and gadgets to raise your chance to survive
  • Manage your inventory to make room for what you deem vital
  • Different types of enemies will hunt you down each room of the facility
  • Buy upgrades and devices to help you during fights
  • Find logs and documents from the 1950s to unveil the stories of the people who worked there

Fun game, if you have played Teleglitch, this is a lot like that. Haven't finished it yet, but leaving a review to say: Yes, there is actually a story, unlike what other reviews have said. No, it's not so light and sparse that it's impossible to understand. You just have to actually read the lore notes and etc around to figure it out. Just keep collecting them, as they are seemingly randomized to an extent where you'll find em, but I almost skipped out on an enjoyable game reading other reviews saying it was story-less.

this rougelike game is definitely one of the better ones you should get, its hard to learn at first and you will die few times but once you learn the rhythm, every run become a fun experiment... except when you had to use shotgun because theyre a bit underwhelming compared to other options few things i want to see being changed are more options for shotguns and increasing enemies numbers too as toggleable settings for even more chaotic gameplay

I am giving this game a thumbs up because it's incredibly fun to play and I love the art style. I wish I could give it a 7/10 though because there are some obvious bugs that just scream incompetence and almost made me refund the game immediately. For example, the controller bindings screen: 1. Some of the bindings are inconsistent or impossible to differentiate. For example, the "right shoulder" and "right trigger" are both listed as simply "Right". 2. The reset option is displayed incorrectly - focusing the reset element causes it to overlap with the binding text. 3. Changing a binding inexplicably causes the text to shift up or down in the bindings list. I understand that bugs will always be an issue with any game, etc etc, but come on man, this is literally in the main configuration menu. Not exactly an edge case. TLDR: Great gameplay, sound, art style, etc. Bad/non-existent quality assurance team.

So far a lovely experience! Didn't expect to get a little murdled by quite a few large things, though.

Very atmospheric game with an interesting lore background and solid gameplay. I got it on sale but I think it would be worth the full price if you enjoy roguelite type games (this was my first) or Japanese horror (also my first game of that type) I only beat the game once, on Easy.
