This is how truly a remake of an old school JRPG should be done this was an absolutely incredible remake of one of the greatest action JRPGs ever made. 10/10 I absolutely loved this game.

If I had to quickly sum it up in a short review: The game seems to have its very hardcore fans. I'm happy for them because the quality of this remake seems very good coming from someone who never played the original. That being said, the game is very forgettable. The two main characters are very likable, but the plot just keeps sending you on fetch quests, and has a very run of the mill save the world plot. Combat is not terrible but not great either, however it is fun in the tougher fights. There is an entire crafting and level up system that is way too overdesigned to offer nothing engaging in the end.

I had always wanted to play this as a kid and never got the chance. Not worth the price of $50. Fun little 30 hour romp. Great to grab if on sale. Everything is very linear. The entire game is essentially a series of A-to-B corridors connecting battles that can all be won by spamming the attack button. The story is expressed through meager text before and after the battles, so the story's pacing is blistering and unsatisfying. Any character that is introduced is almost certainly removed after serving their purpose at the next plot point. The story treats everyone outside the core party like highways signs, rapidly passing into the rear view after you've read them. This is explicitly the case in the game's feigned and true endings. Unfortunately, everyone in the car is pretty quiet, too. None of the party members develops, individually, or in relation to each other. This is underlined by the annoying tendency for characters to say the name of the person they're addressing with a part...

I played the original way back in the day. I haven't touched it again until this remake. The remake is quite well done. That said, the game is still showing its age in departments past the visuals. The story, VA, and characters are charming. However, don't expect anything past being very simple. There are times when the game can make me laugh with its charm, but there are more times when the writing is just way too simple and bland. I say that, but I can still feel the passion that went behind the original creation process. There is love and care here which I can appreciate. The battle system is fun and you can certainly do neat things with the crafting systems, items, formations, team comps, etc. I played the game primarily on UNIVERSE mode. Not sure I'll bother to play the post game content though. Overall a blast from the past that has enough flaws that I would say be weary of picking up if you don't already know what you are getting into.

This was awesome. I just beat this game, although I couldn't beat any of the big RAID bosses and didn't bother trying to figure them out, so there is a bit of unfinished stuff for me. That said, this was great! Such a cool world and amazing game, visually, and fun to play for the most part. Fighting starts off too easy but eventually gets to be evenly matched with some overpowered things as well, but is repetitive, although not in a bad way at all. I am going to watch the anime next, there is actually a full 24 episode or whatever anime of this game. I really enjoyed this for the most part, but my favorite Star Ocean game is still the Xbox 360 one, I think it's called The Last Hope, it was so cool. I love this universe.

It's okay. There are a lot of flaws in the game like not being able to go back n forth between worlds to get what you missed or not a lot of bgm variety so they use the same bgm for different towns/worlds etc etc but overall the game is enjoyable. The graphics is actually really good i liked how they made the game like 2.5D Story is honestly just not bad level.. combat kinda sucks because of limitations of skills you can use per battle Anyways it was an okay game to play and i would recommend buying while on sale for 25-30$ Definitely not worth the full 50$
