About This Game

Polarize is an experimental first-person horror game where a simple job turns into a horrific nightmare.

FEATURES:

  • A short, experimental horror game intended to be finished in around an hour
  • PS1-esque graphics, with unlockable visual effects
  • Psychological horror that fills you with dread
  • Loads of achievements for any completionists out there
  • Quests to do in certain parts of the game
  • 2 endings, one of which is canonical to the story
  • Lots, and lots of secrets, waiting to be discovered

GAMEPLAY:

Tasked with printing out pictures (taken with an instant camera!) and placing them into a container, you must perform the same act around about 120 times... whilst being paranoid about the nightmarish creatures that await you outside your office. The lights occasionally turn off, and you must venture out of your comfort zone to restore it via a lever right outside.

Outside of your office (and sometimes in!), there are going to be nightmarish, shadow people that attempt to kill you. Use your instant camera to either A: kill them, or B: stun them and use your handy-dandy axe to kill them.

You need to plan your way to the lever to end the nightmare temporarily.
Or end it entirely...

This game is a short horror-themed experience with some semblance of a story, although i'm too stupid to figure it out. Don't expect a life changing ending or something that alters your perception of the world, from what I can tell, this game doesn't touch the real world or any of it's issues. Some gameplay elements like the final escape sequence and the few fetch quests seem rushed and kinda just filler; while the escape sequence was just plain bad with enemys that oneshot you spawning right in front of you, and mechanics not fully explained (im looking at you; falling rock segment) The reason why im giving this game a positive review instead of a negative one despite all of the subpar things mentioned above, is because this game is well advertised. Not that it spent a lot of money on marketing or has a large following, but that the game states what it is and delivers on it in a pretty decent way. This game doesn't have any jarring issues that render it nearly unplayable, or anything ...

This is my first indepth review, so apologies, now, lets get into it. The horror. Generally, I do believe the idea is great. But the execution just makes me have to give this a negative review. The horror element in this game is odd, in my opinion. For it does not execute it in a usual way. There is no noticeable music that plays in the background, other then the final bosses theme. And the other part of it is a jumpscare that occasionally pops up. The soundtrack. I can't exactly comment on it, since I didn't notice it much. The gameplay. It consists of one of these four things. One, pressing the E button three time, then moving and pressing it again, before pressing the e button again behind you, and moving to the tub, and pressing e. Two, either pressing rmb a few times, or pressing lmb a few times after you press rmb. Before flipping a switch. Three, walking in the large area to do simple tasks for people, getting a lost child, getting groceries, getting cigars, etc. Four, hidi...
