As someone who played Rabi-Ribi first and approached TEVI with an open mind, my thoughts on the game overall are mixed. This review will cover both the positives and negatives I experienced playing this game. While there are aspects I didn’t enjoy, I still think the game is worth playing. I won’t spoil the story, but I will touch on some gameplay mechanics that some players might prefer to discover on their own.
The bad

1) Sigils
While the sigils should provide a lot more complexity and accommodate for more playstyles than the badges of Rabi-Ribi, I feel as if the sigil system suffers from the bloated amount of them. There are currently 257 sigils in the game at the time of writing, and while the large selection can be nice, a lot of the sigils begin to start blending together as many fill similar roles. Since the sigils themselves make up a large portion of the collectibles you find in the game, I find that more often than not the sigils feel unrewardin...

TEVI is a strikingly ambitious and finely crafted Metroidvania that fuses classic 2D exploration with modern action mechanics and a bullet-hell flavor rarely seen in the genre. Developed by CreSpirit, known for their earlier hit Rabi-Ribi, TEVI is set in a vibrant and intricately designed world called Az—a realm full of technological ruins, ancient magic, and whimsical charm. You play as Tevi, a plucky and acrobatic girl wielding a dagger, a massive wrench, and accompanied by two floating magical familiars. Together, they navigate a sprawling world of dangerous enemies, ancient ruins, and narrative twists that slowly unravel as you push deeper into its labyrinthine structure. What makes TEVI stand out isn’t just its presentation or art style, though those are stellar—it’s the way all its systems harmonize into a cohesive, engaging experience. The gameplay is kinetic and deeply satisfying, offering a real-time combat system that feels like a blend between fast-paced hack-and-sl...
Man, the bar for metroidvanias is so crazy high nowadays it just blows my mind. Great game, highly recommended for fans of the genre!
good game just dont like the small sexual innuedos but this is a spiritual successor to rabi ribi sooo...
Tevi is a wonderfully solid metroidvania, it provides a large world to explore and even experiment in when you unlock certain modes in the game after completing the story. It does have some problems like any other game would have but they are quite small compared to the game itself. I happily enjoyed my time with Tevi even if I did feel a little undecided for a good while on if I should see it to the end or not (I can be indecisive ok). It’s visually quite strong, carrying a solid art style. Each area within the game stands out from each other and keeps the screen clear enough for how chaotic fights can be in the game with bullet hell attacks many enemies and bosses possess. I do personally believe some aspects could have been conveyed a little better such as hidden walls you’re meant to find to progress but I will admit that could just be a “Me” issue and all the recent big budget games out there throwing yellow paint on everything important has damaged my brain… thankful...
About as close as you can get to a 10/10 platformer. Highly recommended to metroidvania/bullet hell/hack n slash fans. Not a good story but the characters are entertaining enough that it's passable (also the cutscenes are skippable and sparse so it doesn't exactly detract from the game). More than enough content to make up for it costing a bit more than other crespirit games.
Finished my first playthrough on Free Roam Mode for the gameplay, which automatically skips all cutscenes by default, so my perspective may be skewed. 80%+ map completed w/ 60%+ items found. I never found where the double jump was, but I really like the alternative powerup that functions similarly to it. I'll talk about the game in the context of Free Roam mode. For returning Rabi-Ribi players, this is the only mode where the reverse wall-jump technique is enabled. It also removes most of the explicit progression barriers, you have less objective markers, and key upgrades that are normally obtained through mandatory cutscenes are scattered across the world. I wouldn't say that you'll ever get lost in this mode, if you keep exploring everything you'll eventually find a way. It's a traditional learn-as-you-play experience, lots of wandering around and being wowed by new scenery. There's a lot of variety in the platforming, fun enemies, and map connections. You've got a lot of new toys ...
Very solid exploration platformer game. If you like "Metroidvania", especially a weird and silly Japanese Metroidvania, you will probably dig this. It's a lot like Rabi-Ribi (by the same people) but seems more refined to me. Some great art and music in here, too (and also some pretty annoying music).
