Space Haste 2

I never imagined for the life of me that one of my favorite little bargain bin games growing up would ever make it on Steam. Literally like 10 people knew this game existed, and I was one of them. A huge thank you to Dreams Interactive and Strategy First for giving this game a chance to to be discovered again, it's an amazing little hidden gem that's just as addictively fun to play as it was when I played it as a kid. Though relatively simple nowadays, this very grungy cyberpunk/industrial Wipeout clone captivated me growing up. My only complaint is that they seem to have not implemented the music for the game, possibly due to licensing issues (though the music label still appears on billboards in game and the music track selector still has the names of the songs). Growing up, I know that the game wouldn't play the music unless you had the CD in the drive, but you could still play the game without the music if you didn't have the disc. I only played the demo a long time ago, and now here I am, playing the full release, It's not a bad re-release, the graphics are very solid, and the gameplay is smooth and fun, but here are some things to note: Let's start with the bad first, first of all, you cannot reconfigure your controls whatsoever, which is inconvenient. Also the game is SUPER HARD, in the later levels, starting from the third, even on medium difficulty, no matter how well you drive, the opponents pull away from you in a matter of seconds, making it almost impossible to catch up to them, your opponents drive through power-ups and you wont receive anything if you're on their tail, making it all for a frustrating experience, I heard of rubberbanding AI's but this is ridiculous, this is probably the worst rubberbanding AI I ever seen in any racing game. A beautiful reminder that even the most backwater niche games had soul once.

It took me years to first find a way to download the game that is not a torrent, but I am glad this is finally on Steam! Unfortunately the age of this game shows and there are a couple of issues: - The music from the CD still doesn't work - The steering is all messed up (fixed when you lock FPS to 60fps via rivatuner) - The AI rubberbands way too much and level 3+ are almost like mario kart Other than that its good fun!

Seems the re-release has broken the input configuration menu. The game also isn't patched to include the soundtrack, the game expects you to have the music on a CD but who still has an optical drive in 2024? It was okay back in the day, but the modern titles like RedOut and Pacer are so much better.

The game mode is confusing. The music isn't there because the music CD is missing. And the control scheme is outdated. This game has aged really badly.

I recommend this game to anyone who likes futuristic racing games from the early 2000s. This was exactly as I remember when playing as a kid. I still have the CD version from back then. Very fun game.

Game is amazingly hot trash holy smokes man. Literally left the map on the first race and ending up locking myself from going to the next level from what it seems. Game exist only to add to your steam library collection and see that ticker increase by an extra game.

Wipeout for poor. Still okay tho.
