About This Game

You are a drummer. Use your drumsticks to show that you are THE drummer! If at first you don’t succeed, the only thing to do is to try and die again.

PLAY AS A DRUMMER who sees through the façade of an ominous metal band

NAVIGATE THE CHURCH overrun with corrupted fans & unimaginable horrors

LEVEL-UP YOUR DRUMMING SKILLS by proving yourself and unlocking new techniques

BUILD YOUR PLAYLIST, and use it to beat your way through the corrupted hordes

DEFEAT THE MEMBERS of hideous, eldritch band, one-by-one.

And ESCAPE!

You're a drummer that just failed your audition with a metal band. After coming to your senses, you realize that everything around you is being controlled and twisted by the band & their music. What's worse, they’ve got an army of countless corrupted fans… and now you must defeat all the band members to end this evil curse for good.

Gameplay: Collect records, draw power, and beat back evil!

Pour some gasoline, light a fire, power-up your drumming, and bring the mayhem!

Use the metal band’s own music against them by collecting the lost music records found in every level. Place them in the record player at the end of the level and you'll be able to absorb the musical powers they contain. Choose one of a dark trinity of tracks to add to your playlist!

These tracks will imbue you & your drumsticks with different corrupted powers. Oil or fire? Lightning or holy light?

Build a playlist as you escape to grow skillful enough to beat your way through the hordes of corrupted using only your drumsticks. Combine different track elements during each run to create mayhem in the most offbeat ways!

Gameplay experience

Armed with your playlist, you will slay your way through corrupted catacombs, abandoned graveyards, and harrowed church halls to collect more cursed records.

But don’t be fooled by the drumsticks! This is not a rhythm game, and the drummer is always replaceable in this band…

Battle of the Bosses

No one likes being rejected, and it seems like this motley crew of musicians like you even less. At the end of each level, the metal band that underestimated your skills will fight you in a blistering solo battle.

You must defeat every one of them to earn your freedom. Each member has unique and over-the-top abilities with their own fighting style. Fight a physical duel using your drumsticks against the keyboardist, the strings section, and the rest of the band! It's every drummer's dream to have a Battle of the Band!

BingBong’s Bodega

This economy runs on guitar picks and exposure,

Your only companion in this hellscape is BingBong, a seemingly friendly voidling, who helps you along your quest by advancing your drumming skills… for a price. His booth at the end of each level is open to trade in guitar picks for something a bit more useful on a run or to put some pep back into your step.

Back in the Santuary, each new drummer can use the EXP (or Exposure) acquired by their recently fallen band mate to gain more perks for their upcoming escape attempt. So that they might succeed where the previous drummers did not, or at least pave the way for the next one in line.

The Soundtrack That Fights Back

Metavoidal features 16 original songs, 72 variations, and over 60 dedicated drum tracks, split across 4 elemental albums: Fire, Lightning, Oil, and Holy - all composed exclusively for the game. Every riff, solo, and breakdown is designed to fuel the chaos, shifting dynamically based on your choices and performance.

Your playlist isn’t just for show, the music you collect during a run changes what you hear in battle. Pick fire and lightning, or oil and holy, and the soundtrack will change to match your corrupted powers.

From blistering boss themes to ominous ambient build-ups, the music is as much a weapon as your drumsticks. It hits just as hard!

Great music, great art - maybe a bit difficult and chaotic but you get the hang of it if you just keep dodging. I really like how true it is to its theme of metal music and culture. Also super cool how each playthrough feels different with your custom move sequence customisation and the tracks you get.

The most metal thing on steam! A bit difficult, but if you keep trying it has a good rhythm to it. Love the dynamic sound track and the artwork!

Pretty interesting game idea. I did one dungeon run because of limited time during the work week. Will play more over the weekend for sure. Pros so far: * Thematically the game is very unique * Cool Pixel art style * Solid soundtrack * Game play from the bit that I played feels like the dungeon runs in Cult of the Lamb, but ramped up * I saw what looked like a super expansive skill tree (so I assume there will be many ways to customise & create builds) * Made in South Africa by a new first time studio so I am expecting more good things :) * Ran really well on my Steamdeck. Perfect type of game while commuting to work. Cons: * I am a super casual gamer these days, and the tutorial for my taste was quite, lets say, unsatisfying, due to getting gang-banged by a million mobs right at the end without a lot of context. This added quite a steep barrier of entry for me. I guess it was perhaps meant as a joke to hardcore roguelite fans, but if you want newbies to join, perhaps some ability to...

Metavoidal rocks! Well, Metals actually but you get the idea. The soundtrack is really good, some of the best original metal music I've heard a small indie game. Love the way it dynamically changes based on your build choices. The pixel art style is stunning and perfectly captures the eldritch metal aesthetic. Combat is challenging but rewarding once you master the technique combos, with enough variety to suit different play styles. Each run feels different thanks to the tracks and relics you can mix which are randomised on each run. The difficulty ramps up well (with enemy unlocks tied to progress), making it genuinely tough but never unfair. Works really well on Steam Deck and on macOS. Overall, there's a really fresh take on roguelites with music here. I've already spent a ton of time playing and can't wait to finish it all.

Fun Roguelite with an excellent soundtrack. Bosses can be tricky and death is inevitable. All you need is the right tracks and equipment and you'll be drumming your way through the level and bosses. Works well on steam deck and its easy to jump in and out. Great first game from the studio!

Overall, recommended for folks who like roguelikes. Extra recommend for those who like challenging games PROs * Works on steam deck really well (no verified status at the moment, but works perfectly) * Sound design is really good * Interesting spin on combat * Skill tree is really nice, you can plan ahead too CONs * Wished the game had an easier difficulty level. The longer you play, then the enemies also upgrade in difficulty. So you'll notice that later runs become harder and you make less progress * A dodging tutorial would be nice

Hell of a fun time with a brilliant soundtrack and a bloody splash of eldritch chaos. Improve your drum skills to get yourself through the circles of hell. Turn up the volume, drop the blast beats and take this one for a spin.
