You ever play a game that's janky, but you love it to bits regardless? Like, those 7.5 out of 10s with so much soul you'll sing their praises anyways? Yeah. That's the takeaway here. I've got four hours in the game at this point - It presents as a simple bump fighting roguelike. Then you discover the nigh unto Shiren tier throwables and varied gimmick firearms, along with a wide swath of unique usable items. A tight inventory limit means you can't carry everything at once, but a forgiving fast travel system means you can stack piles everywhere - Gotta get the dev to put in proper storage chests at those travel tubes... I digress. I've encountered a weapon that leaves water puddles when its done with enemies, hover boots that put you over specific elemental floor hazards, and a necklace that gives great heaping gobs of luck and prevents a couple zone's worth of status ailments, but creates hell on your buff timers through an interesting corruption mechanic if you stand in liquid. About This Game
Welcome to Full Gear! This is a steampunk-style traditional roguelike (turn-based, permadeath, absolutely no progression), where you'll learn that information is key: learn new things, die from an unknown attack, repeat. Use goggles, guns and gadgets to get a gain on the gears, and find... whatever you're looking for down there. You keep forgetting your goal, don't you Devi? Eyes on the prize!
You can also play Full Gear as a modern roguelike, slowly unlocking item sets, boosts, and Toolboxes. If you don't like starting with all the chaotic and complex items, be sure to select Modern Mode and ease more into the game as it progresses.
With hundreds of unique items to equip, throw, shoot, learn and build, there's plenty of possibilities to crash your wrench into the drones patrolling the area. And sometimes your own drones as well. Don't worry, no crafting will be required.
Featuring:
- 8 sprawling areas, all in one giant room, to traverse
- 300+ items, all with unique capabilities, combinations and strengths
- 50+ unique enemies, completely animated in cute pixel art style
- 6 NPC's with their own hopes, dreams, aspirations, and make-shift shops
- 6 Toolboxes, a run tracker, and a seeding system to make your runs personal
- 9 Boosts and 9 Challenges to make the game harder - or easier - at will
- 6 main bosses and 1 final boss
- 30 Steam achievements!
Make Your Own Death Machines
Ah, but using a weapon is never quite enough, is it? You need additional firepower! Gather Parts and combine them in any way you like using local Drone Stations, then let the crafted Drones roam near you, distracting and eliminating any threat. You can make a killer robot with three flamethrowers moving at lightning speed - or a cute companion with a taser called Randy. Nobody's safe from Randy.A Turn Of Events
That cogwheel of yours isn't just for decoration, it's your essence. Whenever a Token reaches the top, it'll activate whatever it does - heal you, shield you, give a Crit, give Scrap, or allow a Drone to fire. Re-arrange these Wheel Tokens to whatever you see fit, and before you can say "hey watch this" you deal 40 damage in one attack. Not enough slots for your tokens to fit? No big deal! Swap cogwheels to get more slots, stacked slots, special tokens or more regeneration to increase your active capacity. But beware - larger cogwheels may have more slots, but consequently, each slot activates less often.
Block And Unlock
Many items are locked at first, but in-game Goals can be tracked to unlock them. How do you get 5 Curse? Deal 30 damage in one hit? Use a Reclaimer? The items you gain from completing goals interact with those mechanics heavily! Additionally, you can simply choose Traditional Mode, where all items are unlocked from the start and Goals are purely cosmetic. Excellent for those living the rogue-life.Remembered History
You aren't alone. Maybe that's for the best. There's people down here. Actual people, Devi. Maybe they have some information. You'll need every bit of it.
They have stories to tell? About mechanics? Good. About the lore? Hm, is that interesting?
Are they of use? They clearly have things they can give you. Maybe it's worth your time after all.
Getting them out of this place?
What, are you insane?
See you around.

Nothing like coming around a corner, noticing an enemy has spotted you and spending 5 minutes wonder what went wrong in your life to lead to this point. Works on the Steamdeck(with some slightly difficult controls). I recommend using the keyboard and mouse layout even though the game supports controller because of the slightly better cursor acceleration and the ability to use the D-pad for movement
Pick up cool shirt and weapons, develop strategies, make people happy, whack small and big drones. Also have small arguments with your friend who just stares at his laptop all the time.
Honestly I wasn't expecting to have this much fun on my first purchase on this type of roguelike. I'm usually meh when it comes to tiles+roguelikes, but I think it's safe to say this one has me hooked for a while, and would probably keep me playing until I get the true ending. (almost there...) Item lores are incredibly interesting and give some clues about what's going on, the dialogues between the protagonist and other NPCS are quite funny. (Of course I'm not spoiling it, that'd ruin the fun.) I like the trading system of the NPCS and other machines lying around, you could just throw away things you don't really want (Like drone parts for bells that gives various effects, for example.) Traps are also interesting, bombs, or trap reclaimers that lets you get traps lying around and throw t...
I have no idea what I'm doing but I think I'm doing it relatively well and it's fun.
There's been a big update and most of my issues have been addressed, so here's my updated opinion. This is a good roguelike with a lot of cool ideas packed into it, and I'd recommend it to anyone familiar with the genre and looking for something new-ish and interesting. At its core the game seems to be about puzzling out the various systems, enemies, story and mechanics, and that's done well. It uses some novel and honestly great ideas, like the cogwheel at the bottom right, which are fun to figure out, and progression is literally and figuratively horizontal which takes most of the frustration out of dying due to experimenting or lack of knowledge. My only relevant complaint would be that movement and combat feel a bit clunky. Using a controller is very pleasant though, I wish more roguelikes would implement controller support.
A very fun turn-based roguelike with interesting turn "gear" mechanic. I've only scratched the surface but I am hooked. I mean, I just beat what I think is my first boss, only to die the very next turn from being on fire, how can I not do one more run? This game deserves more attention!
Well, it could be more visually polished. It's hard to tell what is enemy or device or item. And I guess items are pre-made (not randomized except colors), which is somewhat disappointing. Still I had quite fun and unique experience.

It's a really fun roguelike, and lately been one of my favorite "I just want to play a run and see what cool items I get" games lately; the itemization is excellent and reminds me of Diablo 1 in the best possible way (comparing it to another proper roguelike might make more sense but for this I always think Diablo 1 for some reason); you're dropped off in a central dungeon that branches off into a few different dungeons (randomized each run, from a few options) and basically just carve your way through the awful labyrinth collecting drone parts, gadgets, gear, bells, bullets, till you either get squashed or win. There's a gear mechanic that you can assign abilities to (such as gain a critical hit, regenerate, shield, have a robot drone attack, etc) and instead of actively using it, it rotates every turn and automatically activates the corresponding assigned ability -- works very intuitively and it's fun to slowly build your cog each run; aesthetically I don't really like or care for s...
Fun reasonably priced game. Drone building is pretty neat. The flavor text on all items is amusing enough too.
