About This Game

Engineered To Purpose is a WIP narratively-driven sci-fi tower defence game which allows players to design their own towers, customising attacks, targeting schemes, and more. As pressure mounts, plan out and optimise your defences in order to defeat hordes of enemies!

WARNING:

This is a work in progress, NOT a finished game. The current state of the game is polished enough that you should get a lot of value out of it - but there is a lot of planned content that is not in place yet, and we want you to be able to make an informed decision when buying the game. Two more worlds and the conclusion of our story, new components to build with, new enemy types, and new game modes for post-story replayability are all coming soon!

Tower Design

Our design system is based on combining sets of components and then assigning modifiers to the attack to customise each tower into a unique form and effect. The system allows you to use your unlocked components to build and experiment, adding a new layer of strategy to the tower defence formula.

Designing a tower can be done mid-level if you have enough room, or between levels in our workshop, where towers can be tested against any enemy you have encountered, and you can see the effect of your choices in real-time.

Key Demo Features:
  • Design your towers!
  • Face hordes of unique and challenging enemies!
  • Test your towers in the Workshop to prepare for missions!
  • The first chapter of our story-driven campaign!

Coming Soon!
  • Two more worlds: more story, more enemy types, more tower components, and more maps!
  • Over 100 enemy types!
  • Gameplay Modifiers, allowing you to customise the challenges you face per level and adding deep replay options for even the simplest map!
  • Post-game advancement - Once the campaign is complete, continue to collect new components and upgrade your collection!

Fun game with a twisted story, I am not normally a tower defense guy but this game does it well enough to keep me interested. The visuals are strange and remind me a lot of the show Reboot from the 90s, which is a big plus for me. The game only has the first 2 chapters so the story isn't over yet, but I'm curious to see how it ends with what they have set up here so far.

The options you have for customizing your towers and trying out different combo strategies is a blast. The unlock progression is really satisfying too, I feel like I'm gradually improving my tower squad and creating configurations for different roles. Visuals are a real cool retro vibe, story is spooky and mysterious so far too. One of the best features is that I can name my towers anything I want like "The grumpy goblin" or "Heck Laser"

An hour of gameplay and ranting here: https://youtu.be/gmTHzDSetF0 I'm totally not into Tower Defense games. But, I appreciate the heck out of sincerity and people being nice. So, I decided to pick up a copy of the game after Confidence Roll Games reached out to me about the game. It has a surprisingly engaging narrative that unwraps as you complete stages, which was a nice change from the typical Tower Defense game that doesn't have a lot of substance. The neon graphics really stand out in a vibrant way which gives it this really appealing look, at least for me. But the part of the game that really stands out is the ability to design your own towers and give them names. It's a simple thing, but it's absolutely a charming addition that makes me want to jump back into the game pretty quickly. That's something that almost never happens with a Tower Defense title. You can unlock modifiers with stars you earn from the levels, and you can always go back to complete a level again wi...

its decent but the balance needs some work as the most basic tower with just attack speed upgrades is about 30% stronger then every other tower for the first 10 or so levels while being 40% cheeper

Okay, this is one that's worth a look for sure. Lots to enjoy for standard tower defense fans, but what's really standout/unique is the story and the customized towers. I won't spoil anything for the story, but I will warn you it's pretty dark. The tower customization is really interesting; there's a TON of stuff you can do with them and the gameplay just kind of works with them, even if you do some wacky stuff. I appreciate I can save and name the towers. I suspect you'll start out naming them "asdf" and "oaifhe" just to get 'em quickly bookmarked, and then devolve into "good one" "good one2" "best one" best one2" etc. and find you need to go and refactor all the names at some point. The tower management is really cool! Anyways, game plays great save for a few little issues that you'd expect out of an early access title. The dev seems really active so I wouldn't worry about lack of support at this point. If you're a tower defense fan, check it out!! PS: would love to get gamepad supp...

E2P owns. Great music, cool reboot style visuals, a creepy story, and a lot of room for player expression in a normally claustrophobic genre. The challenge of 3 starring each level keeps me coming back.

I was first hooked by the neon visuals and retro art style, and have to say this is by far the most intriguing and intricate system of tower creation I've ever seen. Most of this genre I've played have your tower types, your enemy types, and not much else, but here I was able to add all kinds of modifiers that each altered the tower appearance and stats. With a few clicks your standard blaster can look almost unrecognisable, slowing or poisoning enemies while another tower type modified for speed picks them off. The resulting neon-drenched chaos is very satisfying to watch unfold, and I'm looking forward to getting at the rest of the game. Get your writer some therapy.

I named a tower "the fuckinator 9000" and it killed my mom

It's an okay game. Very short and 0 updates. It states work in progress. Fact is it's abandoned. More and more typical of Steam money grabs.

Awesome music, really elaborate tower design mechanics, and a surprisingly weird and in-depth storyline for a tower defense game. I'm not really a fan of the genre but I've played quite a few and this one sticks out!
