Hotline Miami is a tight, compact experience that tempers its immaculate presentation and buckets of bloody fun with moments of thoughtful introspection. Gameplay is simple and intuitive, getting a lot of mileage out of a scant few buttons, and the levels function as puzzles with multiple solutions depending on playstyle and player expression. Frustration does rear its head at certain points. The boss battles are unexciting and painfully linear, and it can be incredibly exasperating when the limited control scheme works against you or your perfect combo is cut short by getting shotgun sniped across the map through six layers of glass by the one goon you forgot to bash. Other than these momentary dips, the levels are consistent in quality across the board, and the scoring system gives perfectionists and masochists plenty of opportunities to hone their craft. Gameplay aside, I think where Hotline Miami really shines is the subtle narrative framing that examines player agency and our re...

Amazing rage inducing game that's AI rage baits me harder then any person ever could.
❓ What is this
Hotline Miami (2012) is a top-down action game developed by the small two-man team Dennaton Games (Jonatan Söderström and Dennis Wedin). Known for its brutal combat, neon-soaked aesthetics, and hypnotic soundtrack, it became one of the most iconic indie titles of the decade and a milestone in the rise of Devolver Digital as a publisher.
❔ How I played
Completed the campaign across multiple sittings. Experimented with different masks, weapons, and playstyles while paying attention to both story fragments and the surreal atmosphere. Got something between 6 and 7 hours.

🕹️ Gameplay
Hotline Miami is built on speed, precision, and experimentation. One mistake means instant death, forcing you to adapt quickly and retry until you master each level. The mask system adds variety, offering gameplay modifiers that change how encounters unfold. The loop of trial, error, and perfection is addictive, although the difficulty spikes can ...
do you like hurting people? cuz if you do than boy this is the game for you, it has every, mental illness, disembowelment, animal masks, and so much more
Playing Hotline Miami feels like injecting Monster Ultra straight into your veins. It will 100% increase your testosterone. Besides that, as tends to happen with Devolver Digital releases, this game is a gem: the super fast-paced levels, the violence, the gore, the memorable music selection... even the plot was surprisingly captivating! Totally recommended.
incredibly fun gameplay loop, although it's a bit buggy with certain interactions. it's an absolute fun, gorey, thrill to play through and even 100%. the underlying setting of the game is surprisingly deep, but lorewise, isn't really developed much. mind you, that's completely fine because the main focus is definitely on the game. pair all this viscera filled goodness with perhaps one of the best dark techno/disco/ambient soundtracks ever put together in a game, and you'd be crazy to not play it at least once.
Incredible game. Simple yet fun. It's like top down Doom. Really fast paced. Lots of weapons and playstyles available. The aesthetic is perfect. The soundtrack as well. Someone should create a game like this for the John Wick franchise cause it would fit pretty well. 9/10
This game is only fun if you are an extreme masochist, which I am. 10/10 would kill myself again.
I put tons of hours into this on the PS Vita. Really great top down action with lots of replay value. Different ways of tackling the levels and enemies on top of using different masks which will also make you come at the level differently. The soundtrack is one of the best and I still will bump it daily. Great story and well done gameplay. Runs great on Steam Deck and PC. Highly recommend a full playthrough if you’ve never experienced Hotline Miami.
Been seeing a lot of videos about this game so I got it, and I love the game. Am planning to purchase the second one.
