About This Game
Rediscover Earth
An era of birth and regrowth breathes new life into the world…but not for humanity. Fight your way through giant insects, mutated birds, and much, much worse. All against the backdrop of stunning parallax environments, colorful backdrops, and the hauntingly beautiful remnants of a long departed Anthropocene.
Fight, Fly, Survive
Shoot your way through ground and aerial combat encounters, armed only with your plasma rifle and flight bot. Respite is scarce. Supplies are scarcer. Your journey will be marked by the corpses of those who came before you.
Fulfill Humanity’s Last Hope
Sent by Mothership Terra, you will be pushed to your limits as you battle through unique biomes and hazardous hellscapes. You will face a myriad of malformed creatures thriving in the now fertile wasteland your people left behind. Can you survive this inhuman halcyon?
A Nostalgic Indie Debut
A game by Raleigh and Keirdan. A triumphant debut title from Real Action Labs, this 2D pixel art side-scrolling shooter is made possible by the hard work and passion of two independent developers.

User Reviews
As a lover of pixel art games, I had a lot of fun playing Halcyon. I felt immediately drawn in by its bare, haunting sci-fi story and the game’s visual design. The silhouettes felt fresh and surprising – I loved the giant bees and praying mantises and the tone they set re: a much-changed Earrth filled with futuristic megafauna. The random spawns and layered music that queues when enemies are near kept me on my toes and deeply immersed in each area. The level of difficulty (especially the birds) was just enough to push me to learn enemy patterns without taking away from the gameplay. In sum, this was a very engaging indie title that took me roughly 2 hours to complete. I can’t wait to see where this dev goes next!
the creatures are sick. I liked the spider deer.
Played and Beat it. Aside from the difficulty balance being flawed (It's brutally hard even on Easy), I still played it through. I enjoyed it, it's pretty, and certainly made by an Audiophile. The Look is sick, the effects are pretty, and the world was simple, but cool lore. I really hope he makes a sequel with faster melee, maybe a couple guns (4 would be more than enough if so) and a little more chance to escape enemies. (I got stun-locked a lot) TLDR : Super worth the price, and I want him to make more games. Even with dying a ton, I struggled to the finale. Great Indie Buy
Halcyon is a short and fairly straightforward action platformer that has you running and gunning through the overgrown remains of a future Earth as you seek out the unknown. The game is at times pretty challenging as both common enemies and bosses alike will aggressively rush and attack you. While it took me roughly 2 hours to beat the game as I kept dying to the harder segments near the end, the game pushes you to try and breeze through the game at increasingly break neck speeds with its listed achievements. Overall, this is a first time game developed by a two man team and I would recommend it for anyone who enjoys testing their skills and wants to support new developers.
I'm always inclined to support efforts of developing new games that run on older hardware. There is a vast crowd out there that is still using hardware that only has Intel integrated graphics and there's another crowd that will receive hand-me-down computers soon or will bargain their way through used computer sales. However, the game as it is right now is unplayable, and I'm not inclined to believe the issue lies with my computer in particular. I have collected screenshots that explain the issue by themselves, but I can't attach them to this review. Basically, there is nothing visible except for the main character and large white and large black polygonal areas. Some of these areas are painted on top of the main character, hiding it. Is it some texture that should have been loaded but has not? I think that what I was supposed to be seeing after the tutorial is the last screenshot in the store page. Also, another reason for me to seek games that run on older computers is that they ca...
graphics a bit dark but after a while you get used to it and the enemies are well designed
Giving a 10th score, positive, to this short game (1 plus to 2 hour plus depending on your ability). Liked very much the graphics. No map. Your weapon range is long and kills foes out of screen -and you have a very convenient autoaim option in menus that helps with that-. Manage your jetpack power meter, to hover and kill enemies from above to evade damage. Or rise to their level if flying to better target them. An option to get a farther view (like the game uses with bosses), would make for a better enjoyment in my view. Disclosure: As and a 68 y.o. gamer I used cheat engine (helps me to play *and finish* games that otherwise I wouldn't buy !) Jetpack, Float Exact, 6.0000 at full. Grenades, 4 Bytes Exact, 3 Maximum. Health, 4 Bytes Exact, 200 full. (Address of grenades + 4 bytes).
