"Indeed, it was Rivers belief that the negative feedback he received wasn't the result of poor game design, but rather Home's habit of making players feel uncomfortable." I was going back and forth on whether this was good enough to recommend, and then I made the mistake of looking up interviews with the creator, and that made the choice a lot easier. For the first 95% of the game, I actually enjoyed the experience a lot. The visual style works well, the setup is interesting, and there's a good atmosphere to it. The problem is that during that 95%, the game basically plays out like a detective/exploration game, with your character observing various clues and working out the details of what's happened in the different places he explores. A lot of what keeps you playing is the excitement that you're getting closer to figuring out the plot of what happened before your character woke up at the start of the game... ...and then you get to the end, the game just kind of shrugs its shoulder...

About the Game
Home is a unique horror adventure set in a beautifully-realized pixel world. It’s a murder mystery with a twist—because you decide what ultimately happens.Awakened by an oncoming storm, you open your eyes to discover yourself in a strange, dark room—tucked away in a house that’s not yours.
As you play the game, it changes—subtly, almost imperceptibly—to reflect your perspective. It's a horror game unlike any other, and as you'll discover, its truths are entirely subjective.

A pixel art adventure with a wee bit of spookiness. It's alright.
wonderful game, as the name suggest, it's unique. A blend of horror and the "choose your own adventure" without you realizing it. Personally really loved all the writing.
I think this game is a product of the times. If I played this in 2012 I may have enjoyed it more, but in 2025 it's clunky, confusing and slow. The narrative never answers it's own questions leading to an unsatisfying ending. Maybe if you 100% it will answer all the questions it poses, but when every play through takes 1.5 hours of slow movement, crawling text, and needing to investigate every item? Not worth the money or playtime. If you're really interested, watch a play through.
