As a ToS 1 vet whose been playing ToS since, 2016-17-ish i think, this game is just a depressing mimic. When i log into this game, i just remember all the great times i had being mafia and townie (the coven thing had not come out yet). This new ToS... I find nothing here to be nearly as exciting as the OG ToS. Everything has been changed and for the worse. They have completly changed alot of the roles and mechanics of the OG. Some classes now have completly new alllegence for some reason? and the cash grab vibe just rings throughout the whole experience. Johnny Silverhand was right, this is why you dont bring back dead heroes.

After having played a ton of ToS1, I was super excited to hear of the news of ToS2 coming out. I purchased both games and have played Ranked to Golden status on ToS1 (not as much in ToS2 due to being unable to find matches in time, lol), but it's fair to say I have plenty of time in this game. I've been thinking about whether or not to review for a while, but I feel like it's time to do it. This game is at a depressing state. Not because of the mechanics, not because of how it works, not because of any gameplay design problems. Simply because the community has gone to absolute shit, and it seems like the moderators and/or development team have little to none concerns regarding this. And by going to shit, I'm talking complete gamethrowing every single match. Not the "new player" type of gamethrowing where someone made a genuine mistake. Every single match, there is guaranteed at least one person who will straight up try to play against their objective intentionally "for fun", ruin...

I have an absurd amount of hours in TOS 1 and a good amount in 2. I've been playing this game since 2015. It can be aggravating and people can be terrible, but it's honestly a really good social deduction game. I appreciate the art and the effort that goes into *trying* to keep the factions balanced. I never really get tired of playing it. The best part about TOS is that every game you play will be different, and you find yourself waiting for those OMG moments and pulling off a good play. I recommend the game, but with caution. Please don't take it so seriously and also utilize the reporting system, they're usually pretty good about it.

Veteran ToS2 and Tos1 player here. In order to even play a casual game, you need basic knowledge of Town of Salem slang. There is a in game guide than can inform you about role abbreviations but for slang, theremay be a video or a community post about it. Even I get confused sometimes on new terms. But, if you don't want to do that, just ask for an explanation in game on specific slang and you will usually get one. And never type "Why me?" after getting voted to stand. Trust me. I suggest playing the All Any gamemode at the start. Customs are usually dead and you won't do well in the Casual mode as a new player, despite it being called Casual.

Let me explain how town of salem 2 works. Similarly to how TOS 1 runs. Town Players actively throw games. They will actively ignore confirmed discoveries and grief. You will attempt to report them and nothing happens, the developers letting the players actively griefing to continue with no punishment. Coven gets fucked over because the players are spiteful. Players leave game instantly when getting coven role. Screwing over the entire coven because they're 2-3 players instead of 3-4 alive d2. APOC players barely get a chance to win and win because town wants to troll and let them win. Basically I'm saying the devs barely fixed TOS 2. Some stupid things the dev's did: They made a Crusader role that can actively kill another town member and that's bull. Like why did you make a role like that? APOC's are basically screwed over with no counter play.

This game is very fun... once you get the hang of it. Originally my friend got me into it and it is a STEEP learning curve. Definitely DO NOT ask people in game, my best way of learning was watching gameplay on youtube and reading about the game online like on reddit. After many games of everyone mad at me I eventually figured it out. Normally this is a major turn away but if you are willing to spend some time to learn the game it can be very fun!
