I'm what most would consider a newbie to RTS games. I missed the early 2000's RTS classics. That being said, I loved playing through this game's various campaigns and the two Siege Trails. The narrated campaigns were fun, and while the story was there just to give some flavour to the game, it was enjoyable enough to follow. Unfortunately this game doesn't have skirmish mode, which severely limits the replayability in my opinion. After playing through the campaigns and trails (All of which I really enjoyed, by the way), you are left with Invasions, Sieges and Economic missions, none of which really feel worth putting any time into in my opinion, unless you REALLY enjoy doing those for the sake of playing. There is the map / scenartio editor though, so if you're so inclined, you can do all sorts of cool levels there, probably even something that goes far beyond any Skirmish game mode. Even with that said, however, this game is worth every penny! I put 100 hours into the campaigns ...

a game called "stronghold" where you never actually make stronholds because the ai was never improved and the hardest difficulty is just giving you 10 units to siege a castle with 700 archers and the answer is to pixel glitch an unresponsive ai to chip away at them for 8 hours. Defending isn't about castle building either because the resources are so limited and the levels so short that the answer is to make nothing but towers and stack them with 500 archers (per tower). All they had to do was make "making castles" worth making (they didn't).
Stronghold: Definitive Edition was built on aged but sturdy foundations which honours the roots of the franchise with wonderfully remastered visuals, challenging new content campaigns and a level of love many other, more money-hungry remasters fail to receive. A veritable banquet of siege warfare awaits, including actual multiplayer support and a smashing higher fidelity soundtrack. As such, the Stronghold: Definitive Edition will certainly thrill those who loved Stronghold back in 2001, but also offers a new and exciting RTS experience for new players too. PROS: ✓ New and challenging campaigns ✓ It’s the Stronghold experience impacted and improved in the most fundamental aspects ✓ Matchmaking and community content via Steam ✓ Satisfying to build your own castle ✓ The new textures are very reminiscent of the original and look amazingly authentic, and the new unit models offer much-needed detail ✓ Challenging strategic gameplay ✓ Remains largely true to the original ✓...
More wood sire!
The people hold you in great esteem.
We got tiny bit better graphics and sacrificed alot of playability and troop control. Previous release was 2x better than this. Wish I could still refund
this game is pure svol the music and fully animated economics the little voice lines when you click on peasants the getting your town so drunk they wont complain when you sell all the food to pay for a massive stack of catapults to launch dead cows at your enemies
Maybe you wanna play your own game a couple times before launching it? Random fire events to make the campaign harder are annoying, but you should be able to put them out if you've got four wells. A couple of the firemen just sit there doing nothing while the others douse fires in buildings only for them to go up in flames again. Literally 3 missions into the new campaigns and it's unplayable. You reinvented the wheel, and made it a square.
Of course it is the best game in its genre. It is even genre defining game. But I have just lost all the saved games... Anyone had the same issues. Super annoying.
very nostalgic and fun
