An enjoyable romp, that is heavily limited by the "Procrustean Bed" of Trails formula :\
At first glance, this game seems to have everything: great characters, tolerable to good plot, tight gameplay, excellent music, graphics and animations. It has incredible moments, that are heavily bogged down by impossibly dull side-quests, wide open areas with useless and repetitive fights and a complete disregard for the concepts and themes the game brings up :( With that, let's begin! [This review will contain spoilers for this game and slight allusions to the previous ones] I wanted to love this game. After a soul-crushing disappointment of Cold Steel IV and the pretty good and charming Trails from Reverie, I wanted my previously favourite series to return with a BANG - to make me believe in Trails again. The prologue did just that. Since the moment Agnes "breasted boobily" to Van's office, the game felt amazing - it had Noir-vibes, a fun new protagonist and large change in gamepl...

About the Game
After the war, Calvard is enjoying unprecedented economic prosperity. However, the public grows uncertain as the number of immigrants increases and political reform runs rampant. Follow Van, a young man and local spriggan, on a unique request that will prove more than he bargained for. Will the nation fall into chaos?
The AT (Action Time) battle command has been completely revamped transitioning seamlessly from field battles to turn-based combat. The sixth-generation tactical orbment Xipha offers a revolutionary combat experience unique to this iteration of the Trails series!
In addition, the Topic System allows players to gain an advantage in battle by using conversation topics as bargaining chips. These topics can be obtained by interacting with other characters throughout the city. The game also features the Alignment system, which allows players to change their character’s three unique attributes and influence characteristics such as their status, the forces they fight with (or against), and even how the plot unfolds.
Dive into the dynamic adventure in "Trails through Daybreak!"
Story
The spriggan's life is but one of many professions that has emerged from the Calvard Republic. Be it playing detective, negotiator, or bounty hunter, Van Arkride takes on the kind of work that can't be taken to more legitimate sources. It could be something the police can't handle, work that's best left out of the public eye, or even a request from a criminal of organization in the underworld; so long as it pays and doesn't cross too far over the gray line, he'll accept near-any job that comes across his table.
The year is 1208. A prim-and-proper young lady dressed in the uniform of an esteemed academy visits a dilapidated, multi-tenant building in a downtown district of Edith, the nation's capital. With a most dignified gaze, she looks upon the plague of the door before her. It reads: 'ARKRIDE Solutions Office: Complicated Matters Only.'
Steeling herself, she knocks on the door three times.
"First thing in the morning...?" a relaxed yet surprisingly young voice grumbles with a yawn.
From the moment he opens the door to greet her, a new tale begins.

this game just makes me upset the entire time i play it. trails games have always had things i've initially disliked in them, but usually have grown to like over the course of a few hours, but this game has not grown on me at all there have been a myriad of awful combat changes: - the timeline is unintuitive and provides little usable information, like the delay cost of actions and upcoming turn bonuses, which limits how effectively you can plan your actions out - you cannot manipulate the turn order to steal turn bonuses, something you could do in everyone of the past 10 games - you cannot skip combat animations for basic spells - you cannot easily aim spells in battle, because the camera is locked on the active character the entire time and the controls to move the camera also move where the spells are cast. so casting ground targeted spells is difficult because you cannot move the camera above the battle to accurately place where you want to cast them. this problem is exacerb...
Amazing, game, amazing series. Makes you feel like home coming back to this world
Daybreak is an interesting start to the Calvardian arc of the series, sticking mostly to it's consistent lore and some new lore that frankly seemed rather odd to just shoehorn in suddenly, it persists in telling a fantastic story with a group of fun, loveable and unique characters all blended in with it's own unique culture and people of whom you play as, meet and get to assist, all layered atop a new combat system that I was wary of at first but quickly turned into my new favourite orbament and combat system, if you haven't played this yet? I highly suggest you do, there's very little to hate and a lot to love here dood. Okay the usual full review! So the game focuses on what could be considered two new protags, (I mean usually all of them feel like a protag but these two are focused on) the spriggan Van, a somewhat shady handyman for hire who will skirt the lines of law to get the job done and Agnes (I dunno how to do the arrow above the N sorry lol) a highschooler hiring him unde...

The best entry in the Trails series since Sky SC. The story, the characters, the setting, and the visuals were all fantastic from start to finish. Soundtrack wasn't as good as past games, but still had enough bangers to keep me satisfied. Very strong start to Trails's fourth story arc.
Despite being the first game in an arc, our first game in Calvard manages to stand up against the best games in the franchise, and is the runner up to being my personal favorite. The narrative is really strong, and Van as a protagonist is a breath of fresh air after Rean in the Cold Steel arc. My one major complaint is that the combat feels dumbed-down from Trails into Reverie, but it's still great. Play it, it's good.
Good stuff! I never cared about difficulty, so that's a nothingburger weirdos throw around. Good game, great music, fun combat, and a great cast of characters. All I need to enjoy some good Trails.
Easily one of my favorite games in the series. I really liked the tonal shift it brought in terms of writing and gameplay while still maintaining the core themes of the series. A truly great experience.
After five games with Rean this is a breath of fresh air. Van is an almost 180 from Rean
