Eyepatch wolf's video came out 2 weeks ago. Today at 4 am I hit 80 hours and got as close to 100%ing this game as my brain, body, and soul can handle. I'm not sure how to sell you on this game other than just telling you this is one of my all time favorite games and encouraging you to play it. I am absolutely not a puzzle gamer but this game is so much more than its genre. The puzzles are difficult, but in a way that is usually more fun than frustrating. The music slaps. The art is beautiful. The story is amazing. It's a great deal for the $12 I bought the game for. It'd be a great deal for the full $70 the triple A studios are charging. Go in as blind as you can but don't be afraid you look for help when you inevitably get stuck on a puzzle.

The best way i can say it I think, is the game is good, the game experience is bad. The community for it thinks that if your playing for plot discovery your missing the point, and you really should just enjoy hours and hours of grind for no reward, I think they just have to justify the commitment. How can it be bad if i spent this much time on it, but it is really really bad. I quit at over 70 hours and looked up spoilers, turns out i was 95% done with the game content, and yet there is multiple additional play throughs left of the game. The game just doesnt have the content for the effort expected of you. It's got some great moments, but is awful as a whole. its fun solving game mysteries, and the puzzles are good, but the whole is wrapped up so poorly, expects you to just grind dozens of hours in the vain hope that you'll discover something, and repeatedly just not have anything for your efforts and when you do find something its massively unrewarding. It is good in the tiny d...
I got hooked in right from the start by the puzzle, the story and the mystery. And I am still fired up multiple hours of game later. Great buy, would recommend if you like puzzle and mystery.
Go play Void Stranger. The less you know about it, the better. As someone who can identify as "an aspiring puzzle game player", Void Stranger is an all time classic from front to back, from the moment the game starts. As a brief background, I've tried tons of the modern greats. Stephen's Sausage Roll, Baba, Can Full of Wormholes, you name it. I usually get about 5 - 10hr in, find something that seems utterly impossible, feel dumb, and stay feeling dumb when I give up. System Erasure has somehow manged to give me the same "feel dumb" feeling, while also immediately following that moment up with a eureka moment for the last 29 hours, without fail, again and again and again and again. No title has made me exclaim "What the fuck?" so many different ways, so frequently, as Void Stranger has. Criminally underrated, but the small size has led to a very positive community, heavily dedicated to providing resources in spoiler free ways to new players in the event they ever get stuck. You ow...
I love games that get a bit meta and you have to think outside of the box. However the narrative is far too loose, the plot payoffs are weak and the design of some puzzles are so obscure that you lose a bit of faith in the game design when/if you finally figure them out. If you're going to invite a player to spend time in this world and enjoy unravelling it's mysteries, then you must: 1. Make the intrigue compelling enough to not mind spending forever going back through the same (despite you learning more and more and getting faster and faster) levels over and over 2. Allow for more consistent ways to land on the right "information" to progress 3. Not make half the cast feel completely redundant and to the main story 4. (the big gripe for me) Make it clearer what is and isn't something you should be spending time figuring out Void Stranger has a lot of merit - There is some good lore here, the music is great and if you like these kinds of puzzle games then you will get your money'...
Void Stranger is an ever evolving game with hundreds of mysteries and trails to follow all unified under an obscure shroud of mystery. It has a singular vision and is unafraid of any tool available to express it - it's exceptionally long, has a narrative that can veer into the confusing, upsetting, and shocking, and incorporates frustration, confusion, and continual repetition as core parts of the experience rather than as an unintended byproduct. However, by having the bravery to alienate players, Void Stranger gains access to unique instruments of expression allowing it to subject the player to the full spectrum of human feeling and emotion, drawing you in tight and letting every trough of struggle and regret and crest of discovery and affection feel uniquely real. The bedrock of Void Stranger is its sokoban puzzles. The distinguishing feature of its puzzles is that you manipulate the tiles on the floor rather than pushing boxes around as you try to reach a level's exit, and the gam...
I really like this game, but i really hate this game. The story is really interesting but a few moments are really bad. The Secrets are really fun to discover but unless you really love Sokoban style puzzles the game will get unbearably annoying at about the halfway point and The story grinds to a halt. I really like this game, i can't in good conscience recommend it to anyone i like
On one hand, Void Stranger has beautiful graphics, a great soundtrack, a rich story and fun, subversive mechanics. It's a very solid puzzle game and you can play it just for the two (and a half) main campaigns. On the other hand, Void Stranger is a game filled with secrets and mysteries with a lot of extra content if you're willing to put in the hours. Which is great if you're into that sort of thing, I certainly thought that I was. But Void Stranger just has too many secrets by volume. Finding the first one feels exciting and rewarding. Then you find another. And another. And it slowly dawns on you that the actual meat of Void Stranger is hidden behind backtracking and arbitrary actions, merely disguising itself as a sokoban to lure you into its trap. If you can walk away satisfied with much of the mystery still on the table, then go for it. It's 500-ish levels of sokoban plus whatever extra you manage to find. But if you need a sense of completeness and don't think you'd enjoy bump...
Excellent game with an interesting story and great puzzles until it totally shits the bed 15 hours in. Don't bother. You'll just end up really, really disappointed.
If you have the patience, this an experience like no other. Not a puzzle game exactly. More like a game-puzzle. Everything, the mechanics, the story, the *genre*-- are things that you, the player, are expected to piece together. Keep notes. Take screenshots. Take your time and be ready to try everything more than once. [And uhhh... If I had a nickel for every Finnish indie game in my library that's strongly inspired by Berserk, I'd have two nickels-- which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice, now.]
