... please do not buy this game It...really pains me to say this, but...spend your money elsewhere. Chucklefish, after abusing developers, abandoned the game before it was anywhere near finished, and the massive modding community is the only reason this game is still alive. Its sad. I loved this game so much, and I sunk over 700 hours into it, making bases, messing with logic, and playing with mods. But unfortunately, that's about it. The gameplay progression is basically Terraria's, but much, much slower. The mech suits are cool, but the combat in general feels hollow. I'm making this a blue review so more people see it, and also so I can still silently support the work of the wonderful devs who were screwed over by Chucklefish. Looking back, im angry at myself for convincing my friends to buy this game. The community is wonderful, but the game itself will forever be stuck in Early Access hell, even if it doesn't say it on the tin. Go play Terraria. Go play Avorion. Go play litera...

About the Game
In Starbound, you create your own story - there’s no wrong way to play! You may choose to save the universe from the forces that destroyed your home, uncovering greater galactic mysteries in the process, or you may wish to forego a heroic journey entirely in favor of colonizing uncharted planets.
Settle down and farm the land, become an intergalactic landlord, hop from planet to planet collecting rare creatures, or delve into dangerous dungeons and lay claim to extraordinary treasures.
Discover ancient temples and modern metropolises, trees with eyes, and mischievous penguins. Make use of hundreds of materials and over two thousand objects to build a sleepy secluded cabin in the woods, a medieval castle, underwater arcade, or even a space station.
Starbound has been built from the ground up to be multiplayer and easily moddable. You have the tools to make the universe your own and modify the game to suit your play style - add new items, races, planet types, dungeons, and quests - the possibilities are limitless.
- Choose from one of 7 playable races and customize your character
- Save the universe in an epic story campaign featuring colorful characters, bosses, dungeons, and quests!
- You're the captain of your very own starship! Decorate it, expand it, and use it to explore a procedurally generated universe
- Colonize uncharted planets and collect gifts from your tenants - if they like you, they may even ask to join your ship crew!
- Three game modes - Casual (no need to eat), Survival (eat to survive/drop items on death) and Hardcore (permadeath)
- Craft thousands of objects - building materials, armor, weapons, furniture and more
- Capture unique monsters to fight alongside you
- All content is available in online drop-in/drop-out co-op
- Built from the ground up to be easily moddable. You have the tools to make the universe however you'd like it

User Reviews
Kept on life support by modding community, loved by many albeit it's bittersweet
This game was massacred by its developers. It's unfinished and hollow, having promise but left to rot. It makes me genuinely sad because it is enjoyable...if you mod it to fill in the missing pieces. Otherwise, what you're left with is a gutted story, questionable progression choices, and a disappointingly empty world. Had Chucklefish not decided to run away, things might've turned out differently. Unfortunately, what we have now is an abandoned mess with an almost zero possibility of it being completed.
Absolute braindead devs that abandoned this project back in 2019 and ran with the kickstarter money never to be seen again. Despite all the potential that this game had to offer.
The game lost it's soul, and while it can be amusing to build still, It lost 98% of what made it interesting to explore, now, every world is very similar within a very narrow band of progression
Its good when you use mods like Frackin' Universe, but other than that its a game that was abandoned mid early access.
Read enough about the crappy dev practices. I personally find this game midly fun so I do not recommend.
it's a good game and a vibrant modding community but they committed an unpaid child labor so don't buy it
idk why people hate this game! I have terraria too but terraia is more sandbox but starbound focuses on more on survival! even endless exploring! if you hate this game.... at least know this command.... /admin "/admin" lets you mess around to get a felling of all the content and explore mods!
I am so glad there are mods that skip the main story so I can treat this as the sandbox Terraria NMS game it should be (PS: Get OpenStarbound, don't play the normal fork of the game here)
