About This Game

Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3 is "committing to the bit" so hard that it hurts. It's a sequel to a game series that doesn't exist, complete with lore and a fictional development team. It's a game where match-3 is used not just for combat, but for lockpicking doors, debating robots, and swallowing a bunch of diamonds in front of a notorious gem thief so that he can't steal them first. It is, all genre elements considered, a match-3 survival horror comedy RPG metroidvania, and it's rad as hell.

20 years ago, Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion emerged as a smash-hit genre fusion, casting fan-favorite protagonist Jack Briar in a fast-paced puzzle adventure.

8 years ago, Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3 was announced on the biggest stage in gaming.

This is what happened next.

What is this?

 • A match-3 metroidvania--or matchroidvania --exploring the development of a sequel to a game series that doesn't exist.

 • Another wild genre fusion from the developers behind Clickolding, I Am Your Beast, and Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator.

 • A story about sequels, game development, and the horrible, beautiful things that happen when the foundation of your reality falls apart.

 • Part match-3 metroidvania, part choice-based narrative, part survival horror parody, part joyful wheel-spinning nightmare.

 • A game that could only work with a polka soundtrack, provided by award-winning composer David Mason (Dredge, Life Eater).

 • Committing to the bit.

This dinosaur-fighting match-3 game made me seriously reflect on the role the perspective audience inescapably plays in any creative endeavor and the difficulty of creating art in a medium which must, by necessity, be cooperative. I also got to hug a T-Rex.

Decent concept. Horrible execution. The game is beyond tedious. There's a branching paths / backtracking mechanic that forces you to do the same puzzles over, and over, and over again unless you're taking meticulous notes on what acquired traits are required for each path. There's no way to skip all the dialogue and there's no way in game to check paths without playing them. Its much faster to shut the game off and try again, as there is no in game way to quit a puzzle match, This was either completely intentional to artificially increase playtime or the game inst finished. The UI in this game is so bad as to be nearly unplayable with you get past chapter 3 or so. Things that will have to be added for my recommendation. 1. The ability to quit puzzles or dialogue and go back to the overworld screen. 2. The ability to 'inspect' paths you've already traversed to see what traits are required for progression. 3. The ability to skip ALL non crucial puzzles you've completed already wit...

Delight of a game. Earnest loveletter to the messy experience of making something as complicated as a video game. Also saw a tiny dinosaur with a gun, 10/10

Okay even with the understanding that the title indicates a bonkers game, I'm amazed that my expectations were surpassed by going in a completely different direction about 15 minutes in, and I love this game for it. Hell yeah.

I really enjoy a dev that knows how to code an NPC that gets so angry at me that it literally kicks me out of the client and closes itself. BRB need to go give him a hug and apologize.

For some reason
a salty, constantly swearing multiplayer dinosaur
made me feel warm inside. The game obviously makes fun of it (as it should) but also, you don't make a battle out of a concept like this without appreciation for gaming as a culture. You can see a lot of thought has been put into the game's writing, art and overall structure that turns ~8 hours of gameplay into a sometimes hilarious, sometimes bittersweet journey. The first Strange Scaffold game I decided to buy and I do NOT regret it at all. Wishing the studio all the best!

While the game is fun I can't help but feel I got bait and switched, where instead of a horror game about zombie dinosaurs in a spooky mansion, they instead dropped all pretences of it being about dinosaurs after you finish literally the first chapter and just make it all about meta game about fallout 76 esque-game development which completely blasts any feeling of tension out of the water because you know its a video game and no real threats. Like it would've been nice if they revealed it as a plot twist further into the game or even better just as a joke, but instead they blow their load way too early and then make the entire plot hinge ENTIRELY on LITERAL META-narrative. I've always been a fan of games that people hated for switching genres like Doom 3 being a horror instead of action, or Deadspace 3 being more action oriented, and will defend those to any oncomers who dare... but this just doesn't feel right. It doesn't feel like a "good" unexpected genre twis...
