Epic Auto Towers

[i]Epic Auto Towers[/i] is a weird experience to talk about. I wanted to like it, it was enjoyable at first, but the more I played it, the more I hated it. [h1]Intriguing, raw, contradictory, painful[/h1] EAT, like many other autobattlers, is a game about creating a stat-building engine from random units that you buy from a store, and then pitting it against increasingly difficult waves of enemies between your shopping sprees. On the one hand, EAT has very minimalistic management mechanics compared to others: there's no reserve, you can't move towers, tower removal is at steep premium, towers have very rigid and specific positioning requirements. So you really need to come in with a plan, because [b]it's really hard to pivot[/b]. On the other hand, money's tight, many towers require a lot of copies, several specific (often rare) towers, or even an exact rare tower [b]to actually function[/b], so it's quite easy to find yourself shit out of luck. First let me say: The idea is fun. When you CAN win, it is fun. Thats about it for the good. The bad: It is unbalanced. You MUST take Guardian and/or Glass tower, otherwise you cannot get past the first boss. This is bad game design that you have to have MUST have towers. There is also no modality in build. Want to use Cat tower? Have to have the milk tower. Want to use the Frog tower? Get ready to get Mosquito, Witch and Princess! While it's NOT A BAD THING to have comps built like this, the fact is you can't mix and match very well. And if you get even SLIGHTLY unlucky on your rolls (and didn't draft one of the two MANDATORY towers), you cannot win. Ever. Don't even try, just restart. I can enjoy brutal games, but this game shouldn't be brutal. It should be fun.
