Rating: 8/10
Another one of the old school Lego classics, it ditches most of the traditional Lego character abilities for a selection of spells that grow as you progress in the game. Probably one of the buggier Lego games I've played so far, although nothing too extreme outside of a single crash. These spells are used creatively for the most part, although it's rare for any given puzzle to really use more than two or three of them at a time, and they don't really have any practical use outside of puzzles. LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 is ok as a LEGO Game. It tried to do some things differently, introduced some new mechanics, while also trying to build uppon ones introduced earlier. The gameplay serves as sort of a bridge between the earliest LEGO games and the ones from 2010's that mix their story mode with an open world. Instead of choosing the next mission, player has to go through stories of the first 4 movies by exploring Hogwarts (which serves as this game's hub/open world in addition to Leaky Cauldron, as well as Diagon and Knockturn Alleys), completing lessons and progresing to new levels on foot. I say, for Tt Games' first attempt at mixing story with an open world, they did a very good job.
