About This Game

Gods of Defense is a Roguelike Tower Defense set on a procedurally generated map.

Every run is new

The God stands at the center of the map on top of a Temple. Enemies spawned from the gates will attack the temple. You will build towers to kill the enemies. After every wave you will push the enemy gate farther into the unknown revealing more of the map.

Deck building

Every few waves you will receive Boon cards from the Goddess of Fortune. These cards will give you new towers or extra perks that boost your defense. While you want to collect as many Boon cards, you want to avoid Curse cards. These are invoked by the Evil through the Corruption mechanic.

Some enemies carry corruption trails that infect the towers on the way. When Corruption exceeds certain limit, the evil will invoke Curses. You must learn to avoid corruption or to mitigate the consequences of Curse cards. This aspect brings a novel variation to a typical tower defense strategy.

Roguelite Progression

When enough enemies have breached the temple, it will fall. Whether you win or loose, you can keep the Faith you've earned during the run. You can use it to unlock new towers and boost their abilities.

Gate Bosses

In each run you will face a number of bosses, once you have pushed the enemy gate far enough. As you reveal the Gate Boss, it will go berserk and spawn a torrent of enemies. Each gate comes with its unique challenge. You can choose to engage immediately or postpone it if your defense is not ready for it.

Resource Management

The gameplay also involves production and management of resources which aid your defense - Gold, Mana, Prayers, Matter. Each feeds into a different strategic device and opens up numerous possibilities. After you've mastered the art of defense, you will learn to build beautiful Monuments. This will exercise your resource management skills.

Variety

There are 40 battles to play. Each battle happens on a new map every time you play it. You can replay each battle to earn extra rewards and win Trophies by completing challenges. At any point, you have multiple options to make progress. This eliminates the typical grinding.

Extra fun

GoD also features two fun mini-games. A physics based mini-game lets you earn extra faith by using the surplus resources you collected during the run. A jigsaw puzzle that helps you compose the final vision.

Be aware! This game requires a lot of grinding. It's the most grind-heavy game I've ever played. I'm not sure what other content the game offers because after playing for about 5 hours, I was only able to unlock 2 types of towers and a few upgrades. If you don't enjoy grinding, you'll regret playing this game. The grinding process is also terrible and horrific. I had to play the first stage for hours.

Edit: The dev just released a patch dealing with a majority of my issues with the game. Go dev! I suggest actually reading the reviews of someone with more than 0.4 hours of playtime to make your decision. I'm going to word my review as a direct parallel to the person with the highest liked negative review, because it's blatantly false in a number of different ways. For context, I really enjoy tower defence games, and have played most of them. I still hold the highest rated negative review on Rogue Tower, and I have gone back to Rogue Tower and been disappointed, as I know many of you reading this have. I do think this game has some flaws - Hope IS a pain to generate at the stage of the game I'm at. Would have been nice to get something for completing the trophy challenge on a stage too, which I hope the devs address. But that same thing gives the game some staying power. There is a lot to unlock here, and many different stages and stage types with a number of interesting permutati...

I cannot recommend this game. I like this game, I liked the Steam Fest demo, but this game is just poorly balanced in its early days, if you do buy it, keep an eye on the clock for that 2 hour refund. Gods Of Defense has great potential, the core loop is fun and the artstyle, alongside aesthetic choice, help it stand out in its niche genre, it can keep you focused, and the upgrades are basic enough during runs that you don't need to think back and ask if you've even got poison to add max from 50 to 80. However, it's very grindy so far. Depending on your upgrades, every 3 waves or so you get mild boons, an extra upgrade for 1 level, for 1 of 4 stats, double gold for a round, or no damage to your home base. There are also curses, which is my main issue with this game, they're severely underbalanced and betray the other aspects. These curses can come in 3 or even 4 in a row, varying from no gold, to no damage from certain towers, to destroying UP TO NINE of your towers (which scale wit...

Like others, determined that this was just a grind fest. The currency system is not fun or rewarding. The types of towers are boring and lack depth. The enemy scaling doesn't feel correct and forces you to use specific towers. All in all this game wants you to go through the motions that they designed instead of creating your own fun and unique builds.

Today I was craving for some rounds of tower defense. Fortunately this litte gem had been just released a few hours ago so I played the demo and got hooked to get the full game. I love the generated levels, that somehow makes failing and restarting a level quite interesting as the paths are different every time. Even when loosing, I can keep the faith and continue to level up and get a slight advantage on the next try by getting cheaper stuff.

Literally bought this game 2 hours ago and have 1.9 hours on record - it's so fun, engaging, challenging enough to be interesting without being exhausting. Worth the money for sure!!
