About This Game

Public Land Hunter is a retro hunting simulator that let's you hunt on procedurally generated maps and grow your hunting camp with additional hunters, weapons, animals and perks.

Procedurally Generated Maps
Each map in Public Land Hunter is procedurally generated. You'll find yourself hunting dense fall foliage, breezy summer clearings and sparse winter fields. This provides you with a unique scouting experience for each hunt, requiring analysis of the satellite map and looking for sign on the ground before setting up your ambush.

A True Deer Hunting Experience
With the procedural maps and the realistic deer AI, hunting requires strategy and an understanding of deer patterns, all of which are explained in the games tutorial.

Animal Variety
Hunt rabbits, grouse, ducks, pigs and deer, with the potential for more animals in the future. Each animal has its own patterns and AI. Rabbits roam the fields, grouse need to be driven from the tall grass, ducks are called in, pigs roam the woods at night and deer follow realistic patterns between bedding, water and food in the early and late hours.

Speed Up Time
Public Land Hunter features the ability to fast forward time in order to keep your hunts fast and exciting. While sitting in a treestand or a hunting blind can be relaxing when in the wild, no one wants to sit for hours waiting for a deer when playing a video game. The fast forward mechanic allows you to get right to the action once you're set up for an ambush.

Build Your Hunt Camp
Grow your hunt camp with additional hunters who specialize in different animals and weapons. Complete their tasks to unlock perks and additional hunts.

Arcade Mode
Public Land Hunter also features an arcade mode, where players can experience a truly retro experience and go after high scores that will provides even more unlocks.

This game is the first in a while that has completely sucked me in! The art style is great, the music is amazing as well and fits really well with the theme of the game. Honestly one thing that surprised me was how good the gunshots sound, they're really punchy and just make the guns really satisfying to use. Another thing I really like is it's not just mindlessly walk around and shoot a deer when you see it, I've found myself poring over starting map figuring out where the deer are likely to be, and where they are likely to be going, before figuring out the best place for an ambush. You have to take into account sound, wind direction, visibility and even foliage! Finding deer tracks is just incredibly satisfying and it's one of my favourite things about the game. The best thing is all of this has just been about 1 mode! There are several more modes on top of my favourite which is the deer hunting. The dev also seems like a really nice guy, and responds to bug reports with impressive s...

I've only played a little bit so far, and I'm really enjoying it. The music is fantastic, and I'm a sucker for great pixel art. I love the addition of quests and mini-games, and even some character customisation. Perfect game to just chill out and get a couple of quick hunts in. Seems like a ton of value for $5. I highly recommend.

The amount of content in this game is crazy for the price point. I thought I was getting a deer hunting game, but what I got was a compilation of amazing hunting and fishing modes, all of which have their own charm. It's a very niche game, but I'd recommend it to anyone who likes retro gaming or hunting games.

Only about 30 minutes in (busy week), but already in love. The attention to detail in bringing this game to life is really exceptional. The sound design, the graphics and the characters are all incredibly well done. It feels like a time machine as much as it does a game. A perfect homage to the games of old. And while I'm only a short bit in, it seems like a lot of content to play through based on what I can see. I'm not a hunter but I still find it really fun to play. Excited to unlock all of the different modes.

Fun little game. So far it looks like there are about 5 different types of hunts: rabbit, duck, grouse, deer, and hog hunting; there's also fishing. Each of them are like their own little games. The deer hunt so far is the best as it seems to be the one that utilizes the most procedural generation to be a little unique each time. You get put on a different public hunting parcel and have to identify tracks/signs before posting up in a tree stand and hoping you picked a good spot. The others are still fun and still have randomness to them, but feel a little more repetitive. I like the grouse hunt since it's pretty challenging. Still could use some love in more options, fixing some bugs, etc. I'm sure there is more to come, but it's fun where it is right now and very much worth a buy if you're into the retro feel and hunting.

I'm not a hunter but I'm loving this game so far! It's the best part of Oregon Trail (the hunting obviously) with the vibe of Stardew Valley. About an hour in and I've only done the rabbit hunt & horseshoe mini game so far. Both have been quick, fun, but still a challenge. Looking forward to exploring the rest. Also the music is perfect especially Mungo on the jug.

Don't let the (very charming) art style fool you, this game is a hardcore deer hunting simulator. Just like real life, I can feel my marriage and my sanity unravel as I devote WAY TOO MUCH time to trying to get even just a doe. 10/10 would totally make my wife a hunting widow again
