On top of what everyone says, this game needs to be applauded for having an easy mode and not making any fuss about it or trying to make you feel bad for choosing it. My brain is often pretty smashed when worktime is over and the kids have been tucked in, so I just want to play some cards and watch the fireworks without needing to think too much about it. That this game just supports that out of the box is so very nice!

It's a lot of fun. Good combos, good feedback when you take actions, the space invaders inspired design is fun, sessions have a good length at 20-45m. Story and writing are throw away, but the most important thing is that the game is fun, and it is. Took somewhere in range of 40-50h for me to get the true ending. There have been a ton of good deck-builders recently. This is where I stand on some of the most well known (August 2025): - Difficulty: Monster Train 2 > Slay the Spire and Starvaders close > Cobalt Core - Complexity: Monster Train 2 > Starvaders > Slay the Spire and Cobalt Core close to eachother - Fun factor: Slay the Spire > Cobalt Core and Starvaders tied > Monster Train 2 - Music: Cobalt Core > Monster Train 2 > Starvaders > Slay the Spire (Personally like Starvader's soundtrack more overall because its got better execution, but MT2 has some genuine bangers so I gave it the edge. Cobalt Core's ebb and flow execution is on its own level and I don't think its close) If yo...
A Roguelike Twist To An Old Classic
Somebody took a look at Space Invaders and thought: "I can make a roguelike out of it!" And the result is amazing. StarVaders is a unique mix between turn-based roguelike and the structure of Space Invaders. The interesting mobile mechanic and the flexible energy/heat/mana system easily help the game stand out the rather crowded genre.
Things I Like About StarVaders:
1. Grid-based, Turn-based Card-battler Unique and fun.

Like I stated above, this a roguelike Space Invaders except the alien formation is smaller, and everything operates at the end of your turn. The win condition remains the same, but the lose condition has been tweaked a little. When the enemies enter the three bottom row, they channel Doom. You will lose automatically when the Doom meter is full.
The main gameplay loop focuses on position and target priority. You have limited resource to play your cards each turn, typical turn-based card-battl...
I feel like this game is a tad on the easy side but there is a lot of replayability and characters to unlock. The gameplay itself is good.
The game is very fun. There are tons of options, love the aesthetics and the music.
Not really sure why the high ratings, the game plays pretty much the same every time, every pilot has generally at most two cards/relics they want and spend the entire game going for them. The combos can be nice, but truly just a dull experience. I appreciate that its a functional game, and honestly, I would have just not reviewed it if ads didn't show up stating how positive the reviews are. its just another mid roguelike deckbuilder, not offensive, not really better than slay the spire, so I don't really recommend it.
A great entry in the growing list of "roguelite deckbuilder". It keeps a lot of the usual mechanics for this type of games (multiple encounter options, culminating in a boss, spread over a few chapters, with a special challenge to face the ultra-secret-boss, artifacts that affect your whole run in very silly ways, etc.) But Star vader gets super interesting by bringing in a ton of elements that shift away from other entries. Each of the 3 playable mechs have really unique mechanics and ways to play them, pushing you to play weird and fun combos, forcing you to take hit, to overspend your action points. 13 hours in, there's hardly ever a run of this game that feels like another run, the breadth of builds is super interesting & there's a ton of side content and challenges. One of the best of its genre.
wow, this game is just so cool, the cute animnations, the stellar graphics, the music and THE GAMEPLAY! oh man this game just hits home and makes you wanna come back for more, so much to think about when choosing cards and picking what to do every turn and where to end your turn, i just love it, also plenty to unlock and discover, very good scalling of enemies and bosses, just amazed by what indie games can be! keep up the amazing work!
Excellent deck building tactical roguelike that does a lot of things right. Good choices, tough game play, and variety. The enemies, mechs, pilots, cards and other elements work together VERY well to make interesting play spaces possible. If you like Slay the Spire or Monster Train and other games like those, you should try this one.
I rarely write reviews, but this game absolutely deserves all the love it gets. There is so much content here? 3 Mechs with multiple pilots each that play all very distinct? Lots of fun achievements? Very snappy gameplay paired with lovely gamefeel? This game has it all, it's an absolute steal for its price! If you like StS, MT1/2, Wildfrost, or any other Roguelike Deckbuilder, you at least owe it to yourself to trying this game!
