So, I've waited until the 1.0 release before purchasing - but although i'm enjoying myself, there is a lot of frustration with the fact there is nothing to explain various mechanics/features etc. and I would not recommend purchasing at this point. The tutorial was basic, and certainly doesn't cover a lot of the nuances and additional mechanics that happen as you progress. The game has a lot of promise, but there is so much guesswork, its really hard to play strategically with the various building types and their effects. I've encountered a few bugs which have been gamebreaking (eg letting you place infinite blocks, but unable to progress turns, or completing a platform, only for it not to be recorded/rewarded). I've also not been able to unlock any keys to start adding variables to the game play - yet have unlocked the complete tech tree. Unlocking new buildings does not explain what their effects do (some are obvious, others are very much "eh!?") I'm hoping this will all iron ou...

do not recommend purchasing this game in its current state. i cannot make progress because even though the game acknowledges i've completed objectives, it have gotten no unlockable rewards for them. controls are fiddly and make placing small buildings an exercise if frustration. in addition performance is atrocious. for some reason every time i place a specific type of platform the game slows to a crawl and experiences performance issues that cause it to crash or run at a single digit frame rate. absolutely not ready for the '1.0 release' its being labelled as.
Is it a cool concept with great visuals and soundtrack? Yes. But the game feels more cluttered and randomized than it needs to be. I feel like you have not enough control over buildings and placements and it doesn't feel relaxing or like a free builder, it feels like fighting against the game that wants to end your run. Not what I was looking for unfortunately.
I waited to purchase until full release, but it's clear that 1.0 was rushed and it's still very buggy and unpolished. Whales swimming in the sky, card tooltip showing the object ID, missing textures when rotating the camera, tutorial running on a different game build so it doesn't work like the main game (how the heck is that even possible?). It even still says "development build" on the bottom left, even though the version is above 1.0. Interactions between buildings is limited and not very stimulating, so I soon found myself placing buildings without any particular aim. It's not fun and not rewarding. The placement mechanic is way inferior to Islander, and the graphics is not as refined as Tiny Glade. Try them instead, and avoid PileUp.
Fun game, cool concept, very good looking buildings, having a great time playing. - Great game concept. - Buildings look great and can become even cooler when new things are built next to them. - Fun to play. - Nice looking UI. - But very confusing. - Not a lot of explanation. - A few bugs here and there. - Not very chill. - Unnecessarily hard to unlock keys. - Quite unbalance with upgrading system. - QoL missing a lot.
What a buggy mess.
The game is very buggy. Impossible to complete certain objectives, so it blocks the progression. Even achievements are bugged out. Performance is horrendous. I didn't have crashes but some people do. I do have huge drops of frames constantly after some point and restarting the game do not help. FYI, the game barely uses the CPU and GPU (9800X3D and 4070Ti), and it looks like a ticking check error. So, whatever you have, it will happen. For the game itself, seems like there is a lot to it but nothing is really explained. The tooltips are useless most of the time and the meta progression is, again, not explained. And "seems" to hinder the progression more than anything. Waiting for fixes
After playing the game for a few hours, I have received certain achievements and completed certain objectives that the game has not 'rewarded' me for. I'm suppose to get 'keys' after completing specific objectives but the game does not recognize that I completed it, even if I got the achievements for completing those objectives. Support does not seem to help when asking them. Would not recommend this game.
Unfortunately I cannot give this game a good review in its current state. I agree with almost all of the points made about this game in other negative reviews; unclear mechanic definitions, a lack of a one step undo button, one-click decisions that you really want to be sure about, etc. Unclear tutorial and needs to have more dynamic incentive behind placement of blocks, and which blocks you do place beyond "idk I think this should work". As others have pointed out, getting a water tower right off the bat or when you haven't had a platform factory in awhile is just painful. It does not feel like a mistake I'm being punished fairly for, it feels like I'm just randomly given cards and sometimes I get screwed over. All of this would be tolerable for me tbh as I love a little satisfying puzzler to pass the time even if it has some holes in the finer things... but unfortunately this game runs terribly for me after about 15 minutes of gameplay. Once I have placed up to a certain amount of bu...
Has alot potential but the current state feels more like early access than a "v1.0" main points: - Unpolished, weird UI behavior, - bad performance when sped up, - "press F8 to report bugs" does not work, - you can get softlocked in the tutorial (which is so poorly made, it's more frustrating than helpful) - i finished some challenges but got no reward (which are needed to unlock some traints) With a quality of life update, this game could be great but right now, it's more frustrating than fun..
