Although I can see why some folks like this game it just isn't for me. The story is okay and characters have funny dialog but so many aspects of the game have aged very poorly. The combat doesn't flow super well, the UI is terrible, weight management is a huge pain, and I honestly found myself just wandering around the map trying to find the monsters I'm supposed to kill since there's no tracking system for contracts. If this game ever gets a remaster someday with updated features then maybe I'll give it another shot, but I just can't get into it for now.
“When you know about something it stops being a nightmare. When you know how to fight something, it stops being so threatening.” – Vesemir
This book quote is a great description of this game. It takes some getting used to, especially if you played Witcher 3 first, but once you get the hang of it, you realise what an amazing game it is. The graphics still hold up, and the game looks really good. Combat is a bit slow, and takes some getting used to, but once you set up the right skills it flows pretty well. Compared to the first game, it’s a complete upgrade. From graphics and gameplay, to characters and storytelling. The story is a bit shorter, but in return you get two completely different playthroughs, based on your choice in the first chapter – So I highly recommend you go through both versions of the story. Exploration and quests are really fun, often with difficult choices, when there is no right one to choose. Worldbuilding is great, and faithful to the book ...

Witcher 2 is a throwback in a lot of ways to old PC games, which certainly appeals to me. The delivery method is modern, no doubt, but the fact there's a lot of poking and prodding (and death) that happens even early on has me anxious for another instalment.

Actually, I liked W1 better. And, I thought I played W2 for much longer than W1, but it was almost half. Not that the game was bad, but I was playing it to finish it. I didn't care much for most of the story. Same with W1, but I liked that W1 was lunky and janky. I'm still looking forward to W3, so here I go!

This was a decent game but honestly not great. Many aspects including graphics and gameplay were greatly improved from the first game, but a lot of the tedious stuff was still present. The one thing I hated about The Witcher 1 was how long it took to run around the map between quests, and this game was pretty much the same. But this time there's no waypoint system, so sometimes I had no idea where I was supposed to go. Story was okay, but compared to the books and The Witcher 3 it was pretty weak. Characters were decent but I felt they were a little half-baked, like there was an absence of character arcs or any memorable qualities about them. For example I think Iorveth was probably the most interesting character to me, but we know very little about him and at the end of the game he's pretty much the same exact character as when you met him. And out of all romanceable video game characters, Triss in this game was the least interesting (no chemistry, enticing personality/story, etc.), ...

Obviously not as good as TW3, but surprisingly solid for a game about a decade and a half old. I'm glad I played this, I did not enjoy the original Witcher at all, too unplayable. I gladly recommend this one, just tamper your expectations if you've played TW3.

Although the game has some bugs and poorly designed quests and maps, it is still a good game with a great story, making it absolutely worth a try. Wish I had played this before The Witcher 3 so the experience will be more emotional.

Witcher 2 is an RPG were the player character has a fixed character that combines elements of fighter, magic user, and crafting. The limitations presumably make balancing the game somewhat easier than for D&D-style games where the player has more choice. I'm fine with this trade-off. Interesting story so far. Still playing. One persistent issue: the "medallion" power to discover loot often doesn't work right. There are frequently objects that are flagged as lootable that cannot be accessed, and occasional objects that are lootable but don't show up. Very frustrating.
