4 characters with different combat styles: the balanced Buckler, ranged Archer, heavy hitting Claymore, and agile Assassin. Each has unique attacks and abilities as well as robust action mechanics like dodging, gurading, and parrying.

Powers system based on the five elements philosophy: Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth. These five attribute types have rock-paper-scissors relationships, and players can combine powers to form unique combat builds. Hundreds of Inscriptions add further variances to battles, some with tradeoffs. Matching different inscriptions can lead to unexpected synergies. Players can also obtain WeaponSeals that alter attack forms, adding more room for experimentation with powers andinscriptions.

4/10 its ok.. very bare bones, repetitive, kinda ugly, and choppy. its basically Risk of rain 2 if you took out the streamlined gameplay. choppy button mashing combat, horrendous character design/models/animations, terribly annoying dialogue prompts, unskippable cut scenes, basically the same map everytime, kill some guy, get some charge, clear mist, get tiny upgrade, repeat.

It's an incredibly buggy mess, between attacks killing you during cutscenes such as when you defeat a boss, to a tutorial that can't be completed without restarting the game 3 times, to a very lag-filled and FPS-drop filled experience on an otherwise good computer, the time in it is far from fun. There is some okay gameplay beneath all the issues but you'd be better off playing other games like Risk of Rain 2. I tried playing this both in singleplayer and co-op. My singleplayer experience was smoother than the co-op one, which devolved into a very de-synced mess very quickly. My friend & I had completely different score screen results in regards to kill count and gold collected when we had our run finished, and we kept getting hit by invisible attacks (damage numbers literally showing above our heads without anything visually hitting us during one of the bosses, was very upsetting) During one run, when we died, I got moved back to lobby, and my friend was left in the game session w...

The Bad: Lobbies are Online even in single player. If you're not from NA / Parts of Europe / East Asia there's going to be lag - the game is very dodge / parry reliant and it's painful. Offline mode exists, but it has a separate progression path and losing connection means you have to reconnect or start again Offline. Game has some performance hiccups as well. I'm getting >120fps but the game feels like it's running at 40 or 50 (could be tied to animations or network performance?) and there's frequent FPS drops of 20-30 frames (every few seconds, not minutes) that hurts the experience dramatically. Bosses are frustrating and boring, they will rapidly shift their direction in their attack wind-up until the last second - you essentially have to i-frame their attacks (it's forgiving but frustrating). Bosses also feel like they don't have a stagger or break mechanic where you get a chance to hit them at all. Lao Hu for instance will chain dash backwards whenever you get close to him mak...

This is a really fun game. Your starting character is a sword and board wielding hero. He can block, dodge and parry. He can also slash and throw his shield. All of the actions I just mentioned are intuitive, fun, and have impact. So, what do you do in this game? Well, you clear the mist by activating crystals. You have a combo meter. The higher it goes, the faster you attack. You can mash normal attacks for a second, then jump normal attack. Or you can normal, normal, special. It's nothing too complex but it encourages you to use everything you've got, and as your run evolves, you'll want to. This is not an open world game, but the maps (that are randomly generated) are just big open areas. As you wander around and kill enemies, you get Spirit Orbs. Once you fill your Spirit Orb bar up (2-5 mobs), you can activate a crystal. First of all, the crystals are highlighted by waypoints telling you how close you are to them, and where they are. If that fails, press M, and a map of the ar...

This is unplayable. You can only select what servers to connect to. I selected North America and then in Chinese it says "Registration failed, network connection failed, please check the network!" and there's no button to retry, only a button to quit the game.

First impressions are quite good, hope the game will recieve further updates ! And just to clarify, it's not "always online" as multiple reviews falsely state. You can switch to offline whenever you want. It's just not super obvious (little "save" icon on the upper right corner of the main menu)

Mist Slayer is a captivating game that offers an immersive experience. The combat mechanics are exhilarating, However, there's room for bit more optimization, Mist Slayer could truly shine as a gaming masterpiece.

Having only put a few minutes in here I can see the bones of a excellent game. Honestly, more than the bones. The devs seem to have prioritized expressing what they want the intended combat gameplay, game flow and how they want the game to be fun over optimization and graphical fidelity. It's very rare to see a game be this apparently unpolished and ugly yet feel "okay" to "good" in most cases while playing. Thumbs up if you want to play something you can have some fun with, understand that the game is considered released and hope that the development team updates it here and there to make it run better and look better. Signs of a good studio that need more money and manpower to release an excellent game are painted all over this game, and the only downside to me is that it feels low budget in all the low budget ways except having a competent gameplay design team who probably made the graphics as well because this reeks of small team that's communicating to release a game.
