The Gods of Olympus have abandoned humanity, leaving you to perish without their benevolence. Take up arms against the Gods, climb Mount Olympus, and take their divine powers for yourself to ensure mankind’s survival!
Apotheon is a fast and brutal 2D action game with a striking art style and heroic narrative based on Ancient Greek Mythology.

Features:
-Brutal and bloody bronze-aged combat! Slay your enemies with swords, spears, arrows, and other ancient weapons of war.
-Explore the massive open world of Mount Olympus! Battle mythical beings and search for divine treasure across the Forests of Artemis, the Palaces of Apollo, and other sanctuaries of the Gods.
-Guide the rise of Nikandreos, humanity’s last hero. Interact with a colourful cast of fully voiced legendary characters throughout a rich single-player experience.
-Challenge your friends to single combat! In one versus one local multiplayer, pit your skills against other would-be heroes of Greece.
-Learn a little about Greek Mythology! Apotheon tries to stay true to its source material. Read an excerpt from the Iliad about Diomedes before you stick a Xiphos through his Aspis.

Would give neutral if i could mainly because the aesthetic of the game ruins it for me. It just makes the world and the experience feel flat in a bad way.

Apotheon is one of those rare games that instantly grabs your attention with its bold, striking visual style. From the first moment, it feels like stepping inside a living Greek vase: sharp black silhouettes set against vibrant oranges and reds, each scene carefully crafted and full of mythic energy. It’s beautiful, but Apotheon is much more than just a visual treat. The gameplay combines classic 2D platforming with a metroidvania twist. Controls are generally solid, though occasionally a bit slippery, which can make precise jumps frustrating. Combat feels weighty and satisfying, requiring careful timing for attacks and blocks instead of just button mashing. Exploring Mount Olympus, fighting mythological creatures and slowly uncovering the story of a mortal challenging the gods is exciting, but be warned, the difficulty can spike suddenly, turning a fun battle into a frustrating grind. What really makes Apotheon stand out is its story. It dives deep into Greek mythology, explor...

I was drawn to this game by the art style, and left pretty impressed. The combat is kind of wonky, but the voice acting is good, and I thought the story was interesting. I also thought some of the boss fights were pretty creative. My favorite was turning Artemis into a deer in order to hunt her. Give it a try if you like Metroidvanias.

A great platformer, with good pace, complex enough mechanics to keep you interested, interesting story, and its length is just right. The graphics may be deemed "low quality" by some but they are deliberate, so it's more of a matter of taste than criticism.

It's a cute little game that will occupy around 10 of your hours. Metroidvania, quite easy, and a bit repetitive, but I liked the boss fights, the progression through the open world. Most of all, the graphic design is peculiar and it feels like you're in Greek pottery. Nothijng grandiose, but a good gane if you dont have anything else. 6.5-7 out of 10

The entire game is based on the visual aesthetic of playing on a greek urn. They do a great job with the art, music, and dialogue, but the gameplay itself is severely lacking. You go around collecting weapons
and taking god powers
. The weapons have durability, but you'll never really have an issue of ever running out of weapons, so ultimately its more of an annoyance if you are trying to use a specific weapon only such as Midas to get more gold. The movement is fine, typical WASD movement, with ctrl being the dodge/roll button. The combat is severely lacking in my opinion. You have to aim with the mouse button in the vague general direction of the enemy, and then proceed with hoping to hit them. Sometimes the enemy will use shields which just makes the combat longer. The pathing for the AI is also an issue, you can end up with your allies or enemies just stuck in a weird location. All the power ups you get are rather lackluster. You can get an infinite light (But i...

Incredible art style and music are ruined by incredibly clunky movement, combat that's very difficult to follow, and one of the most disorienting/distracting designs for a map I've ever seen. I really wanted to love this as I find Greco-Roman myth fascinating and love it when games make use of that setting. But every mechanical aspect of this game felt like it was fighting against me. Why oh why is it that any time my character builds up momentum and starts running, he just randomly stops? Why does the roll sometimes feel quick and snappy, sending me far, but other times it's super slow and I barely move anywhere? Not to mention the teeniest aiming reticle for arrows/throwables that easily blends in with the background and also constantly snaps between different targets. Overall: amazing presentation but frustrating execution. I don't want to be fighting against the controls themselves while also dealing with hordes of enemies zooming around
