If you own a Steam Deck, you need to buy this. It's perfect - quick to play, easy to pick up if you have to pause gameplay to make dinner, clear visuals that are easy to read even on old or tired eyes, designed for controllers... it's fabulous. There are hundreds of other reviews singing the game's praises around gameplay and replayability, and they're all true. Incredibly tight, satisfying turn-based game. I don't particularly LIKE turn-based combat games, in part because 2D movement makes things so awkward. Moving to 1D is a stroke of genius in this genre.
My game file corrupted when I died, 27 hrs in and all my progress gone. I just wish there was better data recovery as tried troubleshooting but I couldn't do anything as there was no backup file. The game is fun though maybe have the option to lock existing abilities before the start of the run.
I've played a fair amount of this game and want to love it, but not being able to see what weapons do before you unlock them really makes it into a slog the further you get since you cannot deactivate any of them. This puts you in a position where during each successive run it becomes harder and harder to create anything close to the build you want. You can of course try to remedy this by using tokens to re-roll weapon options, but you're usually just better off taking whatever you can get and then remembering not to upgrade it before you have the chance to sell it and pray for the best.
Fun at first but just not that enjoyable. The progression is way too slow and the only viable play style is stacking upgrades on a couple card and selling the rest since you simply won't have enough money without sacrificing. The upgrades also feel boring and far and few between. Cool art style, the game design is just boring and unsatisfying.
Ive been obsessed with this game since i got it. the progression feels very well paced and the difficulty is perfect. It also plays extremely well on my steam deck.
Perfect tactical masterpiece
Perfect gameplay. Awesome music. Awesome art style.
Beautiful graphic, smooth animation, addicted game-play, old vibe Japanese music and you can be creative in combat in whatever style you prefer. Don't know why this game is not popular yet, weird.
shogun showdown is a game that makes me want to stay in seclusion for a year and play this game and explore it to the best of my ability. there are so many options, so many different strategies. yes, some are better than others, but if you are able to use your tiles to the best of your ability, you can beat pretty much anything. there is a bit of rng, with enemy spawns, battle rewards, etc., but not so much that it can singlehandedly be a run ender. this is one of the best games i have ever played.
Got it while on sale. It's a very deeply thoughtful roguelike deckbuilder/tactical combat blend that really challenges you to pay attention and construct combos. Definitely worth the $7.50 I paid for it. The gameplay is incredibly satisfying - combat feels like a dance, that once you get into a rhythm and things click, you feel quite accomplished. Nice pixelated art style with a lovely, ambient background music that brings Japan vibes all around. Def recommend.
