Sometimes I wonder if I'm getting jaded in my old age and I'm the reason I'm not enjoying games as much as I used to. Then I'm forced to endure the literary dumpster fire that is "Kyle the Vampire"'s introduction and I realize that no, it's not just me. I have so much love in my heart to give to these VA-11 Hall-A-likes but you have to meet me half way. I'm just under 2 hours in and not a single thing has grabbed me - the characters so far have been flat (and frankly annoying), the drink mixing system feels like a chore rather than a choice, and your innkeeper character takes the worst from both worlds of "blank, OP self-insert" but also "mysterious, plot-relevant stranger with a biting wit". There's nothing offensively wrong with the game - the art's great, the soundtrack's alright, and it's overall very polished. If someone told me they loved the game I'd probably think they hadn't read enough but otherwise wouldn't look at them too strangely. That said, if all I'm going to think ...

User Reviews
Consider this a neutral review. There is a good reason there is only 13% of players who actually reached the final part of the story. The game has great presentation, a solid layer of polish and a very nice OST, but it is, ultimately, a visual novel – a reading experience. Hence it will be judged by its story and its characters. And I will quickly highlight a couple major things that affected my relationships with Tavern Talk on the deepest levels. First of all – the drink mixing minigame. I am somewhat of a big fan of making drinks and changing lives myself. That’s why I will probably be losing sleep for the foreseeable future over the design choices of this game. Imagine reading an engaging conversation. Or even better – an urgent brainstorm about saving the world. And partway through it Tavern Talk grabs you by the balls and drags you away. To a place when you don’t even see people you’ve been talking to. To a place where OST changed into default-neutral. And you have ...
Consider this as a mid review. I really love the style and setting of this game, but after finishing it, I felt like I couldn't recommend it to any of my dnd friends. It has some great stuff, the setting is great, the characters are all amazing, and the animation makes everyone look more lively. It's unfortunate that the more I play, the less I enjoy it. The main problem of this game is that it's trying to do too much, so it doesn't give you enough space to breathe. Instead of focusing on 6 to 7 characters, it gives you 11, with additional ones that are not even in the notebook and everyone 'references' each other. The facial animation is lively, but in some more serious dialogues, it just doesn't work. The voice effect is intended to create a more ambient atmosphere, but instead, it becomes so distracting that I have to turn on mute. It's doing so much that much of the stuff becomes a downgrade, instead of a bonus. The problem is the same in its plot and writing. Emotionally, I j...
I enjoyed playing tavern talk. It is very much Coffee talk inspired, and unfortunately doesnt quite get to its level. The story itself is good, beautiful entertaining. the characetrs grow before your eyes and with your help, however the gameplay itself lacks creativity. Each recipe is given to you, there is no search for the right ingredient, or personal creation, the way it is in Coffee talk. the amount of potions is limited, you cant create anything new. After a few hours this makes the game boring and repetitive. Although your choices do affect the story, it is only by chosing one of two options given to you. I wouldnt say the game was bad, i enjoyed playing it from begining to finish. I only feel that it could have been a lot better, when compared to similar visual novels.
I thought this might be a rather simple, light-hearted cozy game. And often times, it's just that. But especially towards the end it becomes more than that. I saw every ending of this game and every single one pulled on my heartstrings. I even got a little teary-eyed when I sat there and watch the credits go by. Otherwise, the music is great, the design of the characters is fantastic (Baya, my beloved, especially) and I was very invested in all of their stories and quest outcomes.
I only recommend this game cause I know there are people out there that legitimately want a visual novel. Even one where your decisions don't make much of an impact. While there are other, none novel parts to the game, they have very little impact and are simple enough a child who is competent at reading could do them. While yes, your choices have different results the overall story remains unaffected. At least, for the first half of the game. That said, its a funny eclectic visual novel that most certainly gives cozy D&D vibes, if that's what you're looking for.
My only wish is for more stories and more drinks! Amazing story, art and music!
This is a relaxing and interesting game. The characters reveal layers of their personal stories with every visit. It's a great game to play on rainy days. I have spent lots of time putting together quests for the customers and listening to their tales. It's one of my favorite cozy games.
Didn't feel like game playing at first cause you read stories most of the time, but you feel more after unlocking more drinks and can decide which drinks to serve. When you know more about the characters, you really feel for them. Nice story telling and I really like the stories and characteristics of each character so far.
I love this game so much! All of the characters are lovable and story is amazing! It's just so good!
