I don't really think it's worth the time or the admittedly low cost right now - there is potential here, but it ultimately feels shallow pretty immediately because of the design of the core gameplay mechanics. Despite what the GIFs on the page show, the enemy planes turn too sharply to ever shoot them from anything other than head on. This means that you basically build up distance, turn + stop (because if you keep your forward speed you won't have enough time to shoot), shoot, then fly away again if you didn't do enough damage to kill them. It also means like half the upgrade choices when you level you want to avoid, because the game pretty quickly turns into a stat check you can't do much else about despite having the appearance of movement being important, it's only important up to a small starting point (basically once you figured out how to turn/stop/shoot you've got as much as you're going to get out of it). There are a bunch of character, plane, and starting weapon combos but...

Turned the game on thinking I'd give it a quick try, suddenly 3 hours went by. *This review is right after the launch of early access, there isn't necessarily a ton of content at the time of writing this (I unlocked everything after 3 hours) but I'm sure more will be added. A nice, unique and distinct take on the survival roguelite formula (i.e. Vampire Survivors, 20 Mins Till Dawn). The first 15 mins of owning the game was me dying in the first 30 seconds of a run because the controls/basic strategy was foreign. Once you get the hang of it though, it's pretty forgiving and has a lot of different ways to play. Easy recommend for the price tag.
A clumsy fight is a game about aircraft pilots dealing with a increasingly hostile airspace. From the moment you take off you are you are assaulted by all kinds of air crafts, planes, helicopters and even some organic creatures. Most of them are hellbent on crashing their plane intro you for whatever slight they you done to them. You take them on with your trusty front firing firearm, steering skills. and on flight repairing. To survive this madness you get helpful upgrades that might or might not be in line with the Geneva convention. missiles, toxic gas and even the help of birds and little support planes (I called mine Jean-Marc). Every time you get killed by the hostile kamikaze pilots you get money depending on the amount of murders you and you little companion (yes i look at you Jean-Marc, you are accomplish in this) tallied up. including a grade from the omnipotent teacher. (My suspicion is the guy in the yellow speedboat might be the one rating you). In-between waves of ene...
Really polished and satisfying gameplay loop, however I think some of the elements need a bit of a rework. However before I jump into criticism, I'll briefly explain why you should buy this game: It's cheap It's satisfying and polished It has a super cool art style It's easy to get into and understand It's an interesting take on the VS-like genre that's emerged Criticism (this is more for the developer than anyone else): Dashing out of a group of enemies feels clunky and unresponsive because colliding with an enemy slows you down so if you get surrounded you just get bumped around and just have to watch your health go from max to 0. Sometimes even just if you're flying away, an enemy might collide with you, slow you down, and you kind of just spam spacebar while you get engulfed by enemies. It's really annoying. It's inevitable that a hoard of enemies will end up following you around and there is really no way to do damage to all of them apart from either getting helpers like birds...
Abandoned.
This is fun for an hour or two and its cheap. However its been months and nothing has been added or improved. The game is very unfinished. The main take away I got from this is a feeling of being cheated out of a little money and being more wary of similar small games which is a shame.
I really wanted to enjoy this; the core mechanical suite is interesting. The movement and upgrade pool are great but the difficulty is extremely wonky. The base accuracy of most guns makes them useless, enemies move faster than you and the combat arena has sides so it's extremely easy to just get pushed into a corner and killed. Might be worth playing someday but isn't right now.
So my interest in this game was piqued because of how immediately and forcefully the animated description picture reminded me of Steambirds Alliance...and I really miss Steambirds Alliance. Not what it was at the end, after the devs conceded to the whining crybabies and implemented forced raid teams and repairable planes, I mean launch Steambirds Alliance with permadeath and lone wolfing and flying like a drunk kamikaze pilot and taking risks and reveling in your successes and shruging off your deaths to start anew. And while this game is not Steambirds Alliance, it does a damned good job giving that same feeling. Where Steambirds was a bullet hell, Clumsy Flight is a zombie hell, with a neverending stream of drone planes mindlessly following you but (mostly) not shooting anything, trying to suicide into you to slow you down, and your only hope is to build up your DPS faster than the mob can surround...
Some are calling it a 'Vampire survivors' clone. I can see why but I don't think that's entirely accurate or fair. I think it's a fun shoot em up game with a lot of potential. Controls take some getting used to but once you get the hang of it you shouldn't have too much trouble. The basic shooting mechanic is just that; it's a start and is quickly replaced by the many silly upgrades you can use against the hordes of planes swarming you. I will post more and/or edit later but I wanted to mention a few thoughts I had about the game so far: * I think the game should start slower, and not amp up the swarms of planes so quickly. The aforementioned basic gun just can't cut it when you've got many planes ganking you and you really have to try to get some distance before you could turn and shoot (which quickly becomes a bad idea anyway because of said swarms). Avoiding will work but only for so long. And I honestly don't want to feel forced to take that route of dodging so much. * I th...
