Return to Monkey Island

Out of all of the Monkey Island games this is probably my least favorite besides Tales of Monkey Island. First of all a lot of the characters were changed, like Carla who in Escape from Monkey Island was completely traumatized from the events of Secret of Monkey Island but in Return to Monkey Island was completely fine (same with Otis), Wally is now super passive aggressive towards Guybrush because of the events of Monkey Island 2 even though he didn't even care that much about it in Curse of Monkey Island, Herman Toothrot was changed from being Elaine's grandfather to just being some weird old guy (even though the idea of Herman being Elaine's grandfather makes a lot more sense because in Escape from Monkey Island he said that when he washed up on Monkey Island he found the initials H. T. engraved on his accordion, if you didn't know Elaine's grandfather's name was Horatio Torquemada Marley), Elaine also acts a lot more nicer than she does in the other games and also... THE ENDING SU...

Return to Monkey Island is the 5th instalment of the original series (excluding the “Tales of…” series). After 34 years, it brings back the point-and-click adventures of Guybrush Threepwood (GT) with Ron Gilbert as director (last time in 1991). In this game, the main character sets out to finally reveal the secret of Monkey Island (MI), an unfinished quest since part 1, which has become somewhat of a trademark of the series, reuniting with lots of characters from past instalments and going back to some of the old places in its course. After about 17 hours play time in a rather completionist style on the “hard” difficulty with more riddles, here’s my pros / cons list: Pros: + recap book to get you up to speed + mission quest logbook in form of the to do list + nice level design + reunion with lots of predecessor characters + map functionality well done + GT can run to traverse maps faster + interaction highlights help spotting possibilities to solve riddles + lots of rid...

ending was wack. artystyle is weird. characters aren't consistent with their arcs from previous games also the game kept teasing insult-sword-fighting would make a comeback, but it never shows up. wth

Really cool game. Nice riddles. But forcing focus to be active for the game not to pause is such a nonsensical decision. Essentially needs third party tools like nofocusloss to be playable.

Ugly art style unfunny jokes and continuous references to better games, the worst of which is the repeated references to the insult swordfighting from Secret hinting that it will appear later in the game. Spoiler: It does not.

I love this game! I hope there's more that could be played on mac. I love the art style, all the details, all the little things to check out, and I love that every line is voiced! So, what is really in the secret? I also hope there's room to finish side quest chum after finishing the game.
